    Video Game Pad Pack!

    Video Game Pad Pack

    The creators of the Ethereal Rising have returned to organize another pad pack with the hopes of uncovering not only new potential in step artists, but to attract the older, more experienced veteran steppers. This time, we've narrowed our focus to one theme, and that is to the genre of our favorite video games!

    Our goal is to provide a high-quality pad pack that addresses the needs of those ITG players who wish to play fun charts from the games that they know and love. Our minimum cap is going to be 25 files (that is, at the LEAST, we are looking to collect 25 files from everybody.).

    Judges
    ====================
    TC_Halogen
    ~Zero~
    Oni-Paranoia

    (Other judges may be appointed through anonymous agreement of previous judges.)

    Graphic Artists
    ====================
    Alex Ritter (arrekusuof93)
    Professor Raine
    Gray Fox
    KA0Z R4VR

    RULES:

    ***PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PUT THE PROPER TAGS IN YOUR SIMFILES SO WE CAN IDENTIFY EXACTLY WHO MADE THEM.***

    1. All charts must have an Oni (or Expert chart.). Any charts with standalone Oni/Expert charts with difficulties of 8 or below will not be considered for pack inclusion.

    2. Oni/Expert charts will scarcely be accepted if they are above 13 in level. If you feel you have an amazing 14 Oni/Expert difficulty chart, feel free to send it to the pack. Those charts will be critiqued much more harshly and will receive no mercy from the judges.

    3. If you can do your own graphics, by all means, create your own. It will save our hard-working graphic artists from doing more work than they have to. You do not have to include a CDTitle, there will be a group CDTitle created for the pack.

    4. Refrain from re-stepping common songs, and try to stay away from popular themes. The more popular the song, the tougher your chart will be judged.

    5. Actual common songs found within a game (very prevalent in GTA games) are NOT allowed. Songs from any well known rhythm games are also prohibited.

    6. Files may include Rolls, Hands, and Mines--do not use these excessively. Lift steps are NOT allowed.

    7. Although it is hard to do for this genre of stepcharts, try to avoid stepping songs over 2:30. If feel that you can make a clean cut of a song, please do. Also, don't step a song under a minute; they don't hold very good play value for a game that allows you to play up to 2:30 per song.

    8. Music files in ALL submissions must be .ogg format. Do not worry about .ogg patching them, that will be taken care of.

    9. Indicate the game your song is from in the subtitle area of your simfile. Do not include it in the actual song title; this can mess up organization.

    10. For graphic artists and those who plan on creating their own graphics: Banner Size must be 418 by 164, and background size must be 640 by 480.

    11. There will only be a maximum of 7 accepted files from any single person.

    12. You have the oppurtunity to request video game albums! If you cannot find what you are looking for, Oni Paranoia and ~Zero~ will attempt to fit your needs, and if they find the album(s), they will host them on abigailross.com/sm -- NO EXCUSES to not step for this PACK!!

    13. Remixes of video game songs ARE allowed.

    NEW: 14. If a song's origin is NOT a rhythm game, but does appear in a rhythm game, it is ok to use.

    Send all submissions to [email protected].

    ===============
    Judged Files

    Green song titles denote an accepted file.
    [color=brown]Good chart with minor errors; not accepted without a revision.
    Orange song titles denotes an undecided decision, or a chart that has potential for acceptance but needs a decent amount of tweaks.
    Red song titles denote a rejected file.

    =======================================
    =======================================
    10.04.08
    --------
    Lucid Rhythms (Professor Raine): 32nd trills/bursts ending at jumps, 32nd mini runs at 170 BPM is barely even doable on keyboard, step flow needs a little work.

    10.05.08
    --------
    Bingo Highway (Kommisar): Some repetitive patterns, 24th bursts at bar 43 a bit rough?

    Flower Garden (Monst3r Joe): Awkward freeze layering, interesting mine placement; hard enough for 9?

    Lucid Rhythms [v2] (Professor Raine): Step flow still needs more work (play it on index and get rid of some of those double steps), a bit less aggressive, but tone it down more.

    10.06.08
    --------
    A Search For Glory (Monst3r Joe): Step flow is good, but a LOT of mines are unneeded; bars 17-33: Jacks are a good idea, but the sounds don't match up with two sets of jackhammers like you have; song is a bit repetitive, so mix up the steps more to hold the fun factor.

    Flying Battery Zone 2 (Kommisar): I don't like the copy, paste, mirror. Bar 14 and bar 39 do flow properly, but are unclear, and you could potentially start backward. The sounds that you are following also make sense, but are a bit tougher to hear as well. Hit that main melody a bit more where you are only hitting the drums.

    Lucid Rhythms [v3] (Professor Raine): It's pretty close to being toned down like it should. Now you need to focus on getting rid of the some of the double steps, there are quite a few. To be quite honest, I say drop the 32nd notes in any cases, then fix the step patterns.

    10.15.08
    --------
    Battle Theme 1 (COTMFreak): Step flow is poor, awkward rhythm usage; song itself is very repetitive.

    Challenge to God (Barista): Many double steps, much of the chart faces to the right (lack of pattern variation)--bars 66 through 87 copy-pasted from bars 6 through 21 (with the exception of the final jump).

    Challenge to God [v2] (Barista): Step flow is better, still a few technical problems, much of the chart still faces to the right--bars 66 through 87 copy-pasted from 6 through 21.

    Malicious Fingers [Sonic 3 Final Boss] (Zarkonis): Tone down the streams, and some of the jumps aren't needed. This chart is really good, but it's also a long, and very difficult song, so it's going to be judged really harshly. Try to make the streams so that the person doesn't have to candle-step like crazy, because that is barely doable at 200 BPM; make some of the streams one-faced. Also, you accent certain sounds with freezes where you really don't have to accent them; and some spots, you have a ton of jumps; use the freezes to get rid of some of those jumps.

    10.21.08
    --------
    **A Search For Glory [v2] (Monst3r Joe): It's a good improvement. I'm still not too fond of the mines, but the lack of short freezes makes me feel better. Hesitant for accepting, but undecided at the moment. I will come back to it.

    Malicious Fingers [v2] (Zarkonis): Very nicely toned down as far as patterns go, and the melody is much more nicely followed. One little thing, there was a double step at measure 64, but I get the feeling that it wasn't intentional, so I made a little fix to it. Good chart.

    Mario (a_dumple): Fix the freeze section, don't use a copy/paste, and fix some of the step flow. Even then, it's still unlikely the song will make it--it's too repetitive in its own sense.

    Still More Fighting (Wyde): Fix measures 38 and on. Measures 1-37 are really nicely done, but 38-42 has really awkward patterns, and from there on is a bit too repetitive. That is all.

    Revlimit Funk (TC_Halogen): Own file, a bit jacky, but actually really fun, and high energy.

    ***New rating color added.***

    10.29.08
    --------
    Run Through the Speed Highway (Leadafro):
    EXPERT: Minor double stepping out of some freeze patterns (bar 19, bar 21). Bar 41 leads into the next pattern the wrong way. Bar 53 has a double step into the pattern before the mines, that's problematic too. Lastly, bar 55 makes you land into a crossed over trill, that's not the best pattern usage. Outside of those errors, the chart is well done, but I won't accept it due to the step errors.

    HARD: Fix bars: 10 (it flows, but not a good pattern for a Hard player), 40 (double step), and 52 (another case where it flows, but not proper for hard.)--ending is a bit tough, recommended revision, but not necessary.

    There are more stepping errors on Easy and Medium, but don't worry about them, I'll take care of them given that you given me permission.

    Still More Fighting (Wyde): Much better. A few little patterns that were awkward, but I won't make you re-do the chart for it, I'll just make tiny fixes. One thing though--find a different song cut--the intro has a stutter near the end of Bar 1. Not your fault, and you don't have to change the chart, but if you can find a cut without the stutter in the intro, it'd be nice.

    Supporting Me (Professor Raine): First thing first, I think the song might need to be de-amplified, it's really hard on the speakers. I might re-master it myself and give a re-review. As for the steps: Bars 1-29 (pattern wise) are really nice, but the freeze section is a bit hard to hear (since you seem to be following the lyrics), because of the song's volume. Bar 31 forces you to switch feet (or double step hehe) into the next pattern, bar 34, double steps, fix them--bar 45, fix the pattern (it's a near full spin), same with bar 49, and that 24th trill doesn't seem to follow too much of anything. Lastly, get rid of the jump at bar 53, the melody isn't accented hard enough to put that kind of pattern.

    Pretty cool idea, too bad I am horrible at making pad files.

    Edit: I can at least try to make a file tough to make up for stealing your 2nd spot, oni

        Nice. I think it would be highly beneficial to upload some of the Final Fantasy OSTs as well, because there are popular songs in there that have not been stepped yet. For those of you who DO choose FF, I have DIBS on Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy VIII.

            I'll do some DK64 songs.

            - Hideout Helm (Online)
            - Jungle Japes
            - Fungi Forest
            - Lanky's Ice Slide

            I'll decide on some other ones later on.

                          Omitting the subtitles doesn't give acknowledgment to a game, and if it's a potentially good song, people might go on and look for it; however, if you put the music's origin in the title and it gets too long, it will MIRROR the letters, and that really doesn't look ANY better.

                            Oh, this is perfect. Lately, I've been stepping a crapload of video game music as pad files. It also helps that DSU4 has slowed down for the time and I don't have to worry about submitting to that at the moment. Lastly, if you don't like the files then I can just send them to DSU, hehehe. =P
