Simple Question

If I take someone else's simfile, remove all the steps, remove all the pictures, then create my own steps, are there any issues with this?

I'm asking because I've always had a problem with the things that let you transform songs into stepfiles and this is pretty much the only way I'll be able to.

If you're just using the sync I don't see an issue (unless the syncing was crazy hard, in which case give props or something).

Don't think it would have been all that hard. Just Peril (Halo). I am having trouble figuring out how to put my own bannar and background over the old one though. Haven't made a stepfile before.

Just make sure your new banner and background have the same dimensions and filenames as the previous ones, or whatever. It should work.

Open up the dwi to figure out how it works.

Backgrounds are 640x480
Banners are 256x80
If you get the dimensions right the game should auto-recognize them when you reload songs/courses under the options menu, but failing that you can dissect the .sm and edit it so that it's forced to use those images, like so:

Wonderful. Bannar and Background image in place. Now all that's left to do is finish the damn thing... why is it that I always have trouble finishing files? Usually takes me days.. Oi.

Days is about par, though if you really push yourself you should be able to crank one out in 2-3 hours.

I'm way to second-guessy of myself. I think I've got a section perfect.. I go back and play it and it just doesn't feel right. It's taken me about... 7 or so hours to knock out 3/4ths. All in all, that isn't that bad.

Depends on the length and complexity. If the song has distinct sounds in it, it's going to be easier to step then one that relies mostly on the background. Or has more steps. I'm obsessed with syncing. If a step is even slightly off, I go into my Light blues (can't remember what 'th' that is) and try to fix it. >_>

The good news is I've finished the file.

The bad news is I'm clueless on what to do now. Personally, I think my Edit steps are BS and shouldn't be played. Same as Challenge until the end where I went into Hand jump hell. Aside from all that...

That's right! 4 months after to make a 3 and a half minute or less File.



Time Spent =/= Quality


In hindsight, the real reason I made this file was because I was annoyed at trying to play this song on the other crappy ass one. I have accomplished my goal of making a file that I won't be annoyed to play.

Next: Ayumi Hamasaki's - Evolution (Gah.. how do people play that file... no offense.)

Well, while it may suck that you won't finish a lot of files that way, at least you are going back and making sure everything seems right. A lot of people think sync is the bible and that patterns are incidental, and I end up hating a lot of those files.

Perfect! Sounds like you've made excellent Edit steps. Unfortunately, Challenge shouldn't be that way, but good job on Edit! Overstepping seems to be the key to Edits.

Disagree. The Edit steps aren't fully complete. Only the ending of the Edit file has them. If I did end up adding anything to those steps, they would just cloud what I wanted the stepfile to really be. And I just didn't really want to do that.

And. The Challenge steps are the Heavy steps. The Heavy steps themselves are blank. Don't really know how to delete difficulties not in use.
