    Quick question(s) about BPM

I recently finished my first ever simfile using DDream studio. The song is a condensed 4 min. Jazz piece... so the the BPM is far from constant. I synced each beat to the the drum hits and high hat hits by ear. Overall, it has over 400 BPM changes.

    My questions:

Why does Stepmania switch sum of my set light blue 64th notes to green 32nd notes? DDream studio editing has a few differences from stepmania editor with the note positioning i guess. :/

Why is the scroll rate so slow in stepmania with this song? I synched every beat to every half note, so they fall on the beginning and middle of each measure...maybe I shud have set each beat to each beat to beginning of each measure? I have to set it to 4 times to even be able to play it when most songs i can just set to 2x and be fine.

What would I put for BPM when uploading into the resonance database? My average BPM at any point in the song is anywhere from 105 BPM to 120 BMP, though at the middle where the solo is cut out for space, it goes down to 65 bpm... but that is just an odd error since its just silence... so i left it alone.

once i get these things figured out and maybe after sum fine tweaking, i'll upload and ask for comments and critique

    Re: Quick question(s) about BPM

I believe that Stepmania and DDReam use different coloring schemes when it comes to 48ths and 64ths, but everything else is the same. If I'm right, your arrows should be in the same place.

    Stepmania:
    48ths - Cyan
    64ths - Green

    DDReam:
    48ths - Green
    64ths - Cyan

    I think.

As for your scroll rate, maybe you're not used to 1x? If every bass beat is put on an 8th, maybe you should use Expand 2x on the whole song.

For uploading to the simfile database, you can put whatever you want, (min, max, avg) as long as it's 5 characters or less (it cuts off after that). Just put the bpm changes in your description.

        Re: Quick question(s) about BPM

Make sure the whole song is selected. Then, Enter->Tempo. With expand or compress, it will change the beginning bpm, and the steps to match. You should probably delete the bpm change it puts at the end (it'll be the original value of the bpm).

Oh, wait. Does Expand 2x work on stepcharts with bpm changes already in them? If it doesn't, you may have to do it manually (400 bpm changes!). Good luck.

Mezo, you can send me your simfile if you want me to take a look at it.

The Stepmania 3.9 Final editor is Green-Cyan for the snap color, but
cyan-green for the actual notes (weird). Since you pointed this out, I'll change DDReam to be cyan-green for both snap color AND the notes for consistency.

You can find min, max, and avg BPM in DDReam.
Min and Max - go to File->Properties and look at the BPM range of values that were converted.

Avg. Press "A" to go back to the autofill dialog and read the BPM off of the top box.

I dont know if expand 2x in SM will work across BPM changes.
You can increase the BPM 2x in DDReam be selecting two markers, press A, choose bottom option, then type "1" in the box to place 1 beat in between, effectively 2xing the BPM.
Repeat for all your beats (or shortcut - group select beats first, and then do this).
