Gap?

umm hello ^^ i just have one question: what exactly is the gap? i checked the stickies and found this guide on how to sync stepfiles and what not, but the third quote (the guide from aperson) says that i need a gap for the song...it says how to make it, but it doesnt mention what a gap is...
