    Speed changes and pauses...

    A few questions.

First, whenever I try to add pauses, it tends to cause yellow-arrow syndrome to the rest of the arrows after the pause ends. Is there a way around that?

Also, i'm looking for a few effects made with speed changes. Whenever I program them, it looks like crap.

Here's a few examples of what I want to do.

    1. Sedative effect. This is for moments that suddenly have slow beats, or trippy trance sections. I can't figure out how to make the change smooth. I've seen it down in other files, though.

    2. Sudden zoom. For the beat build-ups.

    3. Gradual beat change. from normal, to fast, to very fast, to normal.

    4. Stutter. It's hard to explain this if you haven't seen it. the arrows... spaz.

Any help making these, and making them smooth, would be nice.

Also, I have a bpm detector already, but if anyone has other suggestions, that'd be great. Even better if one worked with ogg files.

Maybe if the pause is actually in the song you wouldn't get it. I have seen some files that just keep the YAS anyway.

Not sure exactly what you're talking about. If it's where the song slows down a bit and speeds up (like zag's mooned incects), then just sync it to the actual song.

Stepmania has expand functions built into the editor. That may not be what you're asking for though.

Depends on how much you want it to stutter. Usually you would just double the bpm shortly and have a stop for half the duration. To find the stop you would divide 60 by the current bpm (equal to one measure). Divide that by how long you want the stop to last (16th is the most common).
Or if there are an even number of stutters you don't even need to double the bpm. It all depends on what you're doing though.

Be a little more specific and provide answers and I'll be able to answer your questions better.
YOU JUST WON THE GAME! CONGRATULATIONS!

If you want to add speedchanges that halfs or doubles the BPM, you can do these easily by highlighting the part where you want to have a speedchange, press Enter and choose the option called "tempo" and choosing either Compress 2x or Expand 2x. You can also Compress/Expand it into 2->3 and 3->4, but don't do these unless you know what you're doing.

You can add pauses in the same way, just highlight how long there should be a pause, press Enter and choose "convert beats to pause". Use "convert pause to beats" to make it back to normal without messing up the entire chart.

Also, you said you had problem making your sims onbeat when you added pauses. Remember that you should add these pauses between 4ths notes to keep it onbeat.

        Re: Speed changes and pauses...

I will upload samples of the music I mean in a second, so it should be easier to get a visual.

For sedative effect, I mean when the arrows suddenly get very slow. Not quite like in bag, but close, maybe various degrees of slowness depending on the what the song calls for.

Sudden zoom... there is a simfile with a good example of this.

In the Dancing WipEout pack... Hardcore Overdose. It's near the very beginning, you can't miss the effect.

Pauses... my one simfile already uploaded, Just Accept It, would have had pauses had I been able to keep the beat. The pauses are in the song.

        Stutter- sound sample coming soon.

Mainly, my changes either stutter when I don't want them to, or don't "smoothly" switch over.
