For the dimensions, stepmania likes 256x80 for banners and 640x480 for backgrounds.

For the dimensions, stepmania likes 256x80 for banners and 640x480 for backgrounds.

the more you know~

If you actually care about quality and how they look in-game, it's better to go higher res. 256x80 appears very blurry in-game so it's better to go double the size with 512x160. The only issue with 512x160 banners is that anything with scanlines becomes too compressed and looks terrible. ITG banners of 418x164 also look good however you have to be conscious of the space being used because placing type in the wrong spot will have it cut off in-game.

For BGs, 640x480 is standard but going up a notch to 800x600 is recommended for the same reasons mentioned above. A lot of people play SM fullscreen, so going higher res is a safer and more preferable choice.
