    Something to discuss.

I just played Hayden's Girl Boy Song, you know, the one by Aphex Twin and the one that Toph has also stepped. I raised a question to myself, and I'm stuck between answers.

    Is this simfile any good?

The sync is great, the patterns are fun. Surely it's the step between Toph's Heavy and Oni/Challenge steps that should be considered a better simfile. But I noticed that even though Hayden left out a ton of notes, Toph's Oni/Challenge was over-filled in my own opinion and mostly a challenge for myself to play.

The issue that I have with deciding whether this is a decent or worthless file is something most people would say to something like 2km's K8107 that was included in -joe-'s F4 simfile pack. 2km's K8107 wasn't bad, but what was the point? Skorpion9X's K8107 was "way better" and that's it, end of story. Why isn't anyone saying this about Hayden's Girl Boy Song? Surely it was a waste of time, it's not bad, it's fun to play, but falls technically short. It's nothing special.

My arguement now is that I like the file, but if I had to pick one of them to place in a top simfile listing, why would I pick one over the other? Hayden's may be middle ground, but if I want fun, I could play Toph's Heavy steps. If I was even more skilled, I would consider Oni/Challenge to be more fun. So now I have the issue that skill determines opinion. Hayden's now plays into a very narrow ground because only people of my skill level and below would play it, until you reach the very large of average simfile players that play more for fun. And I'd say that Toph's Heavy steps are more appealing to most "Play for fun-ers."

Think of a scale, with each simfile on opposite ends. Which one outweighs the others? Toph's appeals to more people, but Hayden's is by no means bad.

    RE: Something to discuss.

I really wouldn't want to play Hayden's if it didn't use the full mp3.

That's the full story. Toph's oni is easy enough for me now that I don't need something between oni and heavy. I've played his heavy steps once, maybe twice. Last weekend, when I played SM for like five hours straight, I got one CB on oni, even on a part I normally don't.

Which is better? Tough decision. I like how closely to the music Toph stepped his, but I like the fact that Hayden stepped the full file. I can't really pick one over the other.

All I can really say is that if Toph used the full mp3 it would be absolutely awesome.

There's plenty of reasons why what happened to 2kM's K8107 isn't happening to Hayden's GBS. First, Hayden's GBS has gotten few comments in either direction. Second, Hayden has e-reputation and e-friends and his e-friends are e-friendly. Third, Skor's K8107 is a lot better than 2kM's. Toph's and Hayden's GBS's are fairly similar, minus the 32nd trills of Toph's.

If there one was one point I'd like to power home, it's this. It's the same thing I said in that one Way of the Samurai thread. You should only remake a simfile if the original was bad (which isn't the case here), or there's a completely different way of stepping it. Not only did Hayden use a different style (getting rid of the 32nd trills, which a lot of people don't think are fun), but he stepped the whole song, which gave it a different feel to it. On the other hand, the only dynamic change 2kM made from Skor's was getting rid of the jacks, which Duk had already done ages ago.

Hayden didn't use the full mp3. It's the same cut as Toph's, I believe.

The issue that you have is that you're better than about 99% of all of SM players. I think it was Kilga that once said the average SM player could FC quasar or something to that extent. Personally I think that's about right, or at least AA quasar.

I spoke to Reach and he was talking about how fun is relevant to skill level and such, and he's right. Air on 1.0x music isn't fun for him, but is for me. For Air to be fun for Reach, he said 1.4x is much more fun.

But what I still want to know is whether Hayden's Girl Boy Song merits any worthyness as a simfile. It caters to a small audience and is nothing special. Really. I want opinions from people.
