ok i downloaded the song brightone, and now when i try to play sm, it says that i have no songs. do i need to transfer it somehow?

You need to put the Brightone song in a song folder. I would suggest making a folder from where you downloaded it. I made a Bemanistyle folder, then put all the song folders i downloaded from that site in that song folder. The song folder aka "Bemanistyle" in this case goes in the "Song" folder. Careful when adding a lot of songs at once though. It can overload Stepmania and cause it to crash upon caching. But anyways, that should fix your problem. -
