    Finding the BPM

I'm having a little bit of trouble finding the BPM to a song. I got a little bit of time that I thought I'd try my hand at making a stepfile to a song from Star Ocean - Till the End of Time: The Divine Spirit of Language. Following NestleKwik's guide, he says it can be determined by using WinBPM or by counting the number of beats emulated by the song in six seconds and multiplying that number by 10.

-WinBPM is giving me technical problems. When I try to run the program, it says "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS Windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application"
Has this happened to anybody before, or does anyone know how I could fix this problem?

-If not, would someone mind explaining to me the difference between beat and melody? I'm a complete newbie to stepfile making ( ) and another guide on Bemanistyle said to make sure not to confuse the two. I'm definitely doing just that

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    RE: Finding the BPM

If you don't know the difference between a beat and melody, you shouldn't be making stepfiles. If it's simply the terminology you don't understand, dictionary.com and other resources exist.

Well, excuse me for being musically challenged then... There's a first time for everything and just because I don't know the difference between two things that may seem easy to some or most people doesn't discourage me at all.

well, then lets hope making a bad simfile won't discourage you either... try www.download.com to find another program.

          Thanks

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it

I won't submit a bad simfile though. I'll make sure it's workable first, and I'll learn from my mistakes until I do. That's the most important prospect of anything. Might take me awhile, but I won't give up
