    Problem with BG/banner displaying

    For this new stepfile im making, I can't get the banner or BG to show up no matter what I do.
    I can insert a BG change to make the BG show up, but it looks messy because it just changes as soon as the arrows start coming up the screen.
    The banner won't show up at all.
    I have the names of both the files in the .sm file for #BANNER and #BACKGROUND, but no luck.
    Any ideas?
    (By the way, the banner is 256x80, and .png format, and the background is 640x480, .png format; which is what they both should be, right?)

      um, so your trying to get a Bg change? Or is the normal background not showing up.

      if the bg isnt showing up, you have to code the path to the bg correctly. It has to look like this:

      #BANNER:[song name]-banner.png;
      #BACKGROUND:[song name]-bg.png;
      ^[this is how I do it]

      If you use photoshop where .png images are save as [song name] copy.png, you have to have the code as

      #BANNER:[song name]-banner copy.png;
      #BACKGROUND:[song name]-bg copy.png;

      If you save it and change it where the "copy" isnt on there, then StepMania/DWI wont read it and you'll get the alternate background and or banner.

      As for BG changes, I don't know.

      EDIT: Oh! Almost forgot, you HAVE to have the semicolon [;] after each coding.

        Heh, i had the semicolons there in the first place, and it didn't work.
        But...i renamed the banner with the -banner at the end, changed it in the SM file, and retyped the semicolons.
        ...And it worked!
        Thanks Sudden.

          welcome

          StepMania has two ways of reading bg's. 1. Through the SM file directory, and 2. If the name has -banner or -bg or -background in the .png file name.

          Smart StepMania :P

            I have this problem usually, too. It happens when you open Stepmania with the DWI/SM files there but no banner/BG yet. In Stepmania's lil cache it remembers that the song had no BG or banner and so it won't display them or it does weird things. One time I had a song that when you scrolled over it the banner would be there but would fade to pink. I had everything right, Stepmania was just making a mistake.

            I found that the easiest (and as far as I know, only) way to solve this problem is to go to the Options at the main screen. Near the bottom will be an option that says something along the lines of "Reload all songs/courses." Select that option, and Stepmania will go through and load everything. This oughta fix the problem.

            And if that doesn't work, I don't know what to do.
            So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

            In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

            So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
            And I write the blog for their website.

            Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O
