Re: baq12 Singles release thread
Woops I accidentally started making charts again after 3 years and made 4 new charts and have posted them to the initial post on this thread. My b.
On a serious note though, I had a lot of fun working on all 4 of these charts. Each one provided their own challenges in terms of logical charting, but I think they came out nicely.
I have some more songs in mind that I want to get around to charting in the future, but for now enjoy these new releases!Comment

Re: baq12 Singles release thread
I probably should have specified which charts were the new ones that I just released (woops), so moving forward, on top of posting the new charts in the initial post, I will be posting them in new replies as I release them for those who are too lazy to go to the initial post. So here they are!
A View from the Top of the World - Dream Theater

Lick the Alphabet - Virt

Seaside Labyrinth - Dirty Androids

Tarred and Feathered - Plini

I have a few new charts in progress as well. Just started on Virt's Flowerguy's Pool Party, and have plans for doing An Endless Sporadic's Impulse II. I recently discovered a couple of Kaminose Tsukasa songs that absolutely slap and will get around to working on them soon. I don't know where all this motivation came from, but it's been rather nice getting back into the game again!Last edited by baq12; 05-5-2023, 08:22 PM.Comment

Re: baq12 Singles release thread
Just finished up and uploaded 3 new charts! I chose 3 pretty groovy songs to work on and they were so much fun to do! Some of them stressed me out a little bit since I was having a hard time making a decision on what I wanted from each chart, but that's part of the process I guess rofl.
Action Boyz - Jack and Owane

1 Difficulty
So this was a ton of fun to chart. A lot of intricate layering opportunities presented themselves and gave me a lot of options to really emphasize the groove. There were times where there were so many layers to the groove that I had to select what instruments I wanted to emphasize and which ones I had to leave out, but overall it came together really quickly! Nothing beats a really fun 3 minute chart of some great guitar shredding.
Flowerguy's Pool Party - Virt

1 Difficulty
So out of all the three songs that I worked on this batch, I had problems with this one the most. There are so many layers to the groove that there were times where I felt like I was layering too much or too little, and that it didn't reflect the mood of the song. Especially when the lead line comes in both times. But I was able to figure something out layering wise that I think really feels really good to hit and reflects the song. The lazy 16ths make this so much more interesting and complex in comparison to if they were precise 16th notes, and I feel like it adds to the laid back mood this song gives off.
Heart - Plini

1 Difficulty
So this was an interesting song to work on for multiple reasons. First, while it sounds pretty simple for the most part, there are so many moving pieces to it. Poly-rhythms are prevalent in this song, and are a crucial part of the groove, so I made sure that they felt good to hit while emphasizing the quirky rhythmic contrast. The song is surprisingly minimalistic too, which a lot of repetition in the overall form, but with very slight variation to the thematic tunes as they are played. I think its a really fun and cool play. While on the easier side of things, I think it provides a really fun challenge of being able to hit the groove while navigating through poly-rhythmic motifs in the percussion that adds really interesting layers to the song.Comment

Re: baq12 Singles release thread
Swiggity swoody, look at all the new booty! 4 new charts! These were all really fun to work on, but I definitely had a lot of challenges in terms of decision making that I had to overcome this past month. I got really twitchy with a couple of these charts, so it took a lot longer than usual to get these finished up and released.
Away- Plini

1 Difficulty
So out of all 4 of these new charts, this one I had the most problems with. A lot of the challenge from working on this was the background layering and how I should go about it, specifically in the bass and kick drum. So they are generally supposed to be playing a lot of the same rhythms throughout the song, but there are quite a few times where the kick drum varies from what the bass guitar is playing, which caused a lot of turmoil in terms of how I should layer the bass line. I decided to follow primarily the bass guitar since rhythmically it contains all of the line that I wanted to layer, and I think it helped create a natural progression in difficulty, especially in the later sections. While trying to maintain fluency in the chart,, especially in the development section, I made sure to do enough rhythmic layering over the running 16th runs to ensure that you should be able to feel the lopsided groove while hitting constant 16th streams. It's a really fun chart, and I am mostly pleased with how it turned out. I feel like I could make changes to this forever, so I'm releasing it how it is because I feel it is the most complete in this state.
DIAMOND JACKAL- Akira Complex

1 Difficulty
This chart was fun to work on. I really like each and every drop in this song, as there was enough variety in each one to get a unique rhythmic groove. It was kind of tedious trying to hear everything in the song since it is pretty loud and on the heavier side, but I think I did a good job getting across what I wanted to convey in the chart. Some of my favorite elements are the polyrhythmic gestures that pop up here and there during the drops. They feel super fun to hit and add a lot of depth to the chart. I did mess around with different bpms, especially in the last section, but I didn't quite like how they looked when playing, so I went a little more reserved on the bpm changes, only doing the double time rather than a quadruple time. But overall, its a super fun chart that ventures outside of my comfort zone when it comes to song choice!
Impulse II- An Endless Sporadic

1 Difficulty
So I will say right away that WV's chart of Impulse is still one of my favorite FFR charts ever. The song kicks ass and the chart kicks just as much ass. I wanted to chart the remaster of the song because I think it emphasizes different timbres that the first version of the song didn't have, specifically the inclusion of the orchestra. I had issues initially trying to find the best balance of not too much layering, but not so little where things feel barren. The tempo change was definitely the hardest part in terms of trying to decide how I wanted to layer everything, and I think what I came up with works pretty well. I did some slight bpm changes throughout so I could get some really cool color note changes that emphasized the wonkiness of the harmony in the faster section. I wasn't particularly strict with syncing in this song just because I feel like it would take away from the steady groove, minus one or two sections. But yeah, this version of Impulse is great, and the original version of the song is great. I need to play WV's version again. Hopefully you'll play this version too!
ruin of opals- Kaminose Tsukasa

1 Difficulty
So this song is an absolute banger, and a nightmare to chart. the bpm changes were an absolute nightmare to map out, and in a few sections, it's not entirely perfect. It's by no means an x-mod chart, so playing it on c-mod will be the best way to enjoy this chart. Since this comes off like a virtuoso musical etude of sorts, especially in the beginning, I felt like sacrificing a little in the accuracy of the tempo mapping for a little bit of color note syncing adds a lot to the artistic liberty the song takes at the beginning. Once the groove kicks in, the challenge of how much is too much layering came into mind. I feel like what I did works really well, but as a whole, this song is fairly challenging to play. I had to convince myself that it's okay to have challenging charts that make you sweat a little. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, so enjoy!
I'll be out of town starting Saturday, but I do still plan on making some charts while I'm gone. More to come as always.Last edited by baq12; 06-19-2023, 07:05 PM.Comment

Re: baq12 Singles release thread
Big ol' bump because I started charting again a few months ago and have finished some stuff to release!
ABC- Polyphia feat. Sophia Black

1 difficulty
My chart from the recent Stepcon. I made a few changes to it from the initial submission, fixing a couple of the errors that I missed when I submitted it, as well as adding some holds to emphasize the vocal line. I really like how this turned out. It's super fun and rhythmically interesting, as with a lot of Polyphia's music
Euphoric Lagoon- Bemani Sound Team "Tag"

1 difficulty
Groovy and rhythmically driving songs like this always draw me in. I've been trying to branch out from all the metal that I like to chart and challenge myself with something that I really haven't done before. It's pretty straightforward for the most part, with some color note usage in certain parts to emphasize a different voice and to add intrigue. Its really fun to play all throughout, and absolutely gives me more drive to go outside what I'm used to charting.
Japanese Hospitality- Warmen

1 difficulty
More Warmen! Funny how I talk about branching out and charting new stuff when I always go back to my early roots of charting. I actually charted this about 5-6 years ago and held onto it for awhile, intending to send it to a pack if anything came up, but decided to release it because I really like the song and I feel like this should be played. Syncing this wasn't too bad, with the drum solo getting the most treatment. the keyboard and guitar solos were super fun to chart and are really fun to play. I've definitely grown from when I started charting back in 2008 (if you've played some of my Warmen charts from the Xoon pack days you'll know how awkward they were since I had no understanding of syncing properly and it was just a color note palooza). Will there be more Warmen from me in the future? Well, you already know the answer to that...
Prismatic- 平茸

1 difficulty
This was an interesting challenge for me. There's a lot going on in the song with so many choices on what to chart and what not to chart. Trying to get something that made sense while not completely breaking the flow was definitely a challenge, and I made quite a few changes throughout the charting process. I thought about using color notes to emphasize certain voices in the song, such as the piano in the middle section, but I think short holds fit better (to methe hold releases kind of fit the song better personally). I really like how this turned out. For those like myself who have a hard time keeping a consistent swing, this is perfect to practice and perfect it.
Hope you enjoy! More to come soon. I have a ton of WIPs in my folder that are a few edits away from being released, including a re-step of my Beyond Abilities chart from Xoon 4 (17 years ago good lord). Stay tuned!Comment
