I'm going to walk you through step by step
1. Open up Microsoft Excel.
2. File>New 4x (however many steps you wanna have)
3. Then write in each little box STEP when you want a step.
4. If you want an eigth or other kind type EIGHT, or SIXTEEN before it.
5. When your done, save as a .sm.
6. Put it in the folder with the song, stepmania will sync it for you.
7. Go eat and sandwhich and watch you stepfile SOAR to the top of the ratings chart on Bemanistyle.

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

ugg. Its not that hard.
go to your StepMania CVS folder and click on the thing that says README. Then click on The .SM File format in that file. Simple as that.
