    FFRevolution

As some of you might have seen in the video database, I put up a video about a recent stepfile I made that is composed entirely of other FFR stepfiles. It's also mislabeled, the song title is actually FFRevolution (the R wasn't capitalized). I felt it would be better if this was just a single release instead of a file submission to FFR.

Click the banner to download. Also, play this on cmod.

Considering the song's title was FFRevolution, I wanted to make a file showing how FFR files evolved over time. The most obvious is how much the converter improved. Here is the song listing:

142.32: Terror From Beyond (very first file ingame)

I'll give some background on why certain parts are colored the way they are in this stepfile.

Crowdpleaser: The converter didn't know how to handle anything that wasn't 4ths, 8ths or 16ths. So when 32nds and 64ths were involved, the colors were out of whack. I believe the file was also rated a VC at the time.

Balloon Fever: Like stated above, the converter couldn't handle anything above simple colors. As a result, when the 12th jumps came, the rest of the file turned into pink notes. This is why I colored that section pink. I also believe Balloon Fever was rated a 13 back in that time

Grand Galop Chromatique: This one I remember was rated a 13 back when it was released. The file suffered from red note syndrome when the 24th section in the beginning came.

Exciting Hyper Highspeed Star: Remember that 24th roll in EHHS? Yeah, that screwed the rest of the file up in the original conversion back when it was released. It also suffered from red note syndrome because of it.

Revolutionary Etude: Believe it or not, the Revolutionary Etude in game is actually not the exact steps as the file in the Essential Sim Collection Pack. Reason being is that back in the day the dwi converter had an error with a certain jump pattern and placed it different. The [34][14][34][14] part was actually just a [34][12][34][12] jumptrill in the original stepfile.

While a lot of the other files were added because I found their patterns interesting, it's important to note a lot of the 2007 and earlier files I put in here were also played frequently back in the av-miss glitch days. Shashakiro was the first one to give input about what was feasibly possible to score on songs due to avmiss glitch (e.g. Crowdpleaser is impossible to FC but getting around 740 combo when the 64th trill started was feasible, Nova Pulser 7g is best possible score, and so on).

However, to this day I don't think anyone remembers what the hell Domani and Delirium are about with their nonsensical colors. Then again, that was back when the color converter was still in its early stages.

Edit: Looks like Domani just had the BPM quadrupled. The red note syndrome led me to believe some color had been placed there the converter didn't recognize.

    Re: FFRevolution

Grand Galop Chromatique was actually stepped at one BPM (a very high one). I used to have the original .sm file... Shash used 64th notes to dicksync it. This was of course because back then, the converter could not handle BPM changes. I remember it was intentionally left with red note syndrome to mask the fact it was a rainbow dicksync file.
Rebirth re-colored it by hand a few months after it was added.

Revolutionary Etude's converter error was actually a common problem in a number of old files. In addition to Revolutionary Etude, the long jack in Runny Mornings was supposed to just be a jumptrill, and the 0-framers in Party 4u v1 were also caused by the same issue. I'm sure I'm forgetting some others, too :P

Also I remember the pink note section of Balloon Fever mysteriously ended at one point for no discernible reason, and the ending of the file was (mostly) properly colored.

      Good times.

I think the most important thing about Balloon Fever when it was first in game was that certain notes were invisible. I can't remember which ones or why, but I'm pretty positive that was a thing. Might want to do some forum digging.

Cant wait to get home and play this, although i almost never play SM. I would like to see this put together. The way files and this game have evolved is astronomical. Where songs like Nova pulser and Balloon fever were 12's, now only low 60's.

Sometimes i miss av miss, try playing crystals house leaves/terror from beyond back in the day.

Reach mentioned invisible notes for Gradeus too, and it was at the very beginning of the file (I think it was a glitch in the engine itself where if you hit early enough you could get an extra arrow in).

Balloon Fever also had this weird phenomenon of slowing down at the very end. The notes actually slowed down on screen; that doesn't happen now.

Yes the ending 16th streams were proper colours again for some odd reason

Crowdpleaser was virtually impossible to FC because the framers in the 64th trill made it almost impossible to hit notes in sequence (for instance the average frame of arrow 2 would overlap with the early good frame of arrow 1 so you would have to hit early frame perfect averages to FC it or something). Shash worked all of these things out meticulously frame-by-frame. Caprice's perfect score was 2 goods I think and Molto perfect score was 12g, OMW was 8g iirc. And thoughts of a Revo FC were lol-worthy; though I think it theoretically could have been AAAd then but it was just insanely hard (2 or 1 frame window for perfects in the jacks)

100-bar black out was actually hard to get perfect on too lmao (2 goods I think)

I noted that this was a glitch in the engine around the time of my first AAA, because i discovered it while trying to AAA snowflakes, and also the reason i have 300 plays on that file.

I finally got my first AAA... (snowflakes)"

~~Let me try and explain this in a easy to explain way~~ Say your life bar is at 5/20(21) whatever. You are about to hit a roll [1][2][3][4][1][2][3][4]. Now you are to miss the first 5 notes(failing the song). This would fail the song on note [1], but if you were to hit replay, you "could" hit [2] as if you were going to continue the roll. This arrow didn't visually appear. The "hidden" arrow timing would be consistent with the song at the point you failed. However I say "could" because if you didn't press a key, it wouldn't miss a note. This is possible for a couple different songs that i tried, and was not limited to [2]. It was the next note after the one you failed out on.

Trivia: Actually i held the highest spot on snowflakes with a 392 combo for about 10 minutes until i asked a mod to delete my score.

This actually happened to me on a newer file on R^3 but I was using a random interval speedmod and offset at the time. Was playing fine, and all of a sudden things just started to slow down, compress (speedmod-lowering condensing), and finally came to a stop where everything just sat there. It was intense.
