    Stepmania Statistics

I recently started using SM-SSC and noticed that the new way of theming opened up some pretty cool possibilities for additions to the evaluation screen. So I messed around with it a bit and added some new statistics.

It's not the prettiest right now, but it's a start. As you can see this is just an addition to the default theme, but if anyone would like to add it to another theme I can probably write up some instructions on how to do it.

    Explanation of the statistics:
MIGS DP (Marvelous Incorporated Grading System Dance Points): This is the number of dance points out of the total possible that you could have scored. You can find the formula for calculating this here.
ITG DP (In The Groove Dance Points): This is the number of dance points out of the total possible that you could have scored. You can find the formula for calculating this here.
Offset Avg: This is the average of all of amounts of time you were off when trying to hit the arrows. For example, if I had a song that was just 4 arrow long and I was 0.002 seconds early on the first arrow, 0.005 seconds lat on the second arrow, 0.015 seconds late on the third arrow and 0.007 seconds early on the last arrow the Offset Avg would be:
    (-0.002 + 0.005 + 0.015 - 0.007)/4 = 0.00275
Basically you want this to be as close to 0 as possible. If it seems consistently be far to one side of 0, you might want to consider adjusting your cmod, or theme, or global audio offset, or arrow receptor position for the theme (that's what helped me get mine from -0.007 to around -0.002)
Abs Offset Avg: This is the average amount of time your taps were off.
Early Taps: The number of arrows you hit early
Late Taps: The number of arrows you hit late

    v0.01 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=THW1SYAR
    *Added MIGS DP
    *Added ITG DP
    *Added Offset Avg
    *Added Offset StdDev
    *Added Early Taps count
    *Added Late Taps count

    v0.02 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L7C7M49E
    *Made the text smaller
    *Removed Offset Std Dev
    *Added Abs Offset Avg
*Added a Histogram of the timing offsets

    This only works for SM-SSC.

If anyone has any suggestions on other things that might be cool to have on the eval screen, let me know.

    Future plans:
    -Make it look better
    -Add some snazzy graphs
-Add bar code to the eval screen that contains all of the info. Then make a site where you can upload screenshots and the site reads the bar code and inputs the data automatically. (Like Thaor's BluePlanet site but without the hassle of having to enter the values manually)
    -Add any good other suggestions

Amazing. I wish I played still. Too lazy to re-download all the packs and get good again.

have you seen the graph on the results screen of KBO?

            do that

btw could you instead of having standard deviation offset have mean absolute deviation, where you take the absolute value of each offset and then take the average of all of that. b/c it's a more meaningful number to humans as opposed to staticians

Yeah. I did end up adding that after I posted this. I haven't seen the kbo graph, but I'll take a look.

                I created a new version.

                v0.02:
                Made the text smaller
                Removed Offset Std Dev
                Added Abs Offset Avg

@Patashu: What is that second graph on KBO showing exactly?

Could you make the texts surrounded with bright lines so that they can be more readable

                  Great stuff

The second graph looks like it's showing at every point in time how many of each judgement you were getting.

Thanks, this is looking very cool now. Could you colour the graph the same way KBO does it (e.g. marv coloured if it was a marv, perf coloured if it was a perf and so on)?

                      Re: Stepmania Statistics

Another thing I'd like to see in sm-ssc that isn't strictly statistics related:

Imagine going to the editor and selecting a section of the song to repeat in playtesting like it was guitar hero practice mode (you can already do this iirc), but at the same time there's a second chart on the right and playing the part of the chart you select at the same time ctrl+rs onto the black space on the right, so you can see a visual representation of your replay, how you time/mistime things and where, etc.

This came up when longgone was telling me how he used to be unable to pass forceful beat another in BMS because some of his fingers just weren't doing anything in the ending. If he had a visual replay like that he'd be able to see quickly which fingers weren't up to slack.

Maybe call it the ghost of a replay, like how there are ghosts in racing games

This is definitely a cool idea. I've been thinking of SM a whole lot lately, and there are basic features in games across all genres that have yet to make into SM. This is one of them that could be implemented and be of great convenience.
