I had the same problem as you, I got trouble with my MA when I changed to Distant. So I got used to Distant and my MA's back (Probably better). I usually add 10%-15% extra Cmod when I change from Overhead to Distant.
I played with Overhead C850 and then I changed it to C940.
I increased to C1020 Distant and somehow can play C900 Overhead with no problem.
You might want to try C750-C800 first. If it's too slow or too hard to read, just increase to C825 and such. Just play with the Cmods a bit.
I first started out distant at around C900 and overhead C700 but if I play it at all these days it's at C725, while overhead is C650 lol. Had gotten pretty good with Orbular and used to get SDP's on easy MA songs and pretty good MA on other stuff with distant, like having an AAAA on Ageha 3 years ago but now it's like playing with Judge 7, and my MA is 3 times as good on overhead, yet still horrendous. :/
Depends on how quickly you get used to the perception of the arrows in distant, apparently my eyes seem to see the arrows hit center of the receptors but they're actually at the middle-end of the perfect frame.
Playing FFR/Lurking around the forums since Dec. 2004
It's really just a personal thing and it comes with the time. The longer you play with Distant, you will get better at it. I know it, cause I've played a long time with it. It really helps with reading fast and weird stepcharts. But in the end it's just a personal thing. Maybe you can even play better with Hallway, who knows.
And it's easy to calculate the rate for Distant:
Overhead C-Mod * 1.2 = C-Mod for Distant
But personally, I recommend you to use Mini. You can still use Overhead and you are able to see more notes, cause the arrows are smaller.
And to get close to a "Distant feeling", you set Mini to 20%
Open your metrics.ini and search for [ScreenOptionsMaster]
There, you will quickly notice the "Effect" stuff. To get 20% mini, you just replace the existing line with this:
Effect,4=mod,20% mini;name,Mini
And again, Overhead C-Mod * 1.2 = C-Mod for 20% Mini
Thanks a lot btw, I'll keep this in mind when I try out new mods.
I haven't played with Mini yet but it seems appealing.
I'm definitely not comfortable with Hallway, my eyes hurt when I try playing 250+ BPM songs, especially when they flash at an awkward angle.
So 700 is 840 in distant, thanks for the rates.
I can probably go higher, like C880, which is what I'm playing with right now.

Cmod for Mini = Overhead Cmod x 2, just for you to know.
635 Overhead for me. I used to switch back and forth between the two. They say Distant is better for reading, but it doesn't make a difference to me. I got sdcb on Disregard on overhead as I got 12 cbs on Distant lol
you mean you can get MA-zing MA ;P
so I've tested out Mini, and it feels sort of comfortable but my eyes start hurting after seeing the arrows for a long time.
I'm sticking with Distant I guess :O
This is my goodbye to Overhead. I'll miss you forever

Overhead without question. It is what I started with, and it just feels natural. First time I ever played ITG I almost flipped out because I hated the new scroll. Good thing they still had overhead or I would have never left DDR.. haha. DDR sux so much xD
I will use musical lyrics for my siggy.
