    Please Help!

    I've played Stepmania before, I know how to get songs and simfile packs onto it and all that jazz. My dad recently purchased a new computer (which I'm currently using). I downloaded SM just fine, and I downloaded a simpack. When I extract the zipped folder, the folder with the actual songs doesn't come out. Only two files are extracted from the zip, and they are useless files, and their icons look like pieces of paper with a bent corner. How can I extract the file and make all of the files within it be extracted?

    Re: Please Help!

    It depends on your OS and the compression format. If you use windows then either get 7zip or WinRAR, they usually have no problem extracting files from archives. Depending on the format of the compression, i.e. .tar.bz2, you might have 2 files you need to unzip to get to the actual files.

        It's a Windows Vista. I'm pretty sure this computer has WinRAR, and the file is in .zip format. It extracts it, but only certain files (the ones I don't need).

          Ahhh, now I'm trying to edit the metrics file to allow me to have Cmods, but it won't let me save it! It just says, "Cannot creat the filenameblahblah (not literally). Make sure the path and file name are correct."

          This is really frustrating...

            Ok, is it even possible to use Stepmania on Windows Vista? I've spent the past hour attempting to add Cmods. I then downloaded Cyberia Style theme because I knew it had cmods, but I eventually just completely screwed up SM and had to delete. So seriously, do you any of you people play stepmania on Vista?

              I know vista hates when you edit certain files. Usually you make a copy of the file and save it to the desktop. From there you should be able to edit it to your liking. Once edited overwrite the old metrics file.

              I know of at least 3 people that use SM on Vista.

                Yeah I made a copy of the metrics.ini file with added speed mods, deleted the other metrics file, then I made a copy of the edited language file and deleted the other one, but it's still not showing up in SM. I then tried to install another theme but that just completely ****ed SM up. I'm not sure whether I should download SM on this computer again and keep trying or re download it on my XP computer which is slow as hell and will probably be moved soon.

                :/

                  Ok, I redownloaded SM on vista, this is what my metrics.ini looks like:

                  [ScreenOptionsMaster]
                  # Player options
                  Speed=11
                  SpeedDefault=mod,1x
                  Speed,1=mod,0.25x;name,x0.25
                  Speed,2=mod,0.50x;name,x0.50
                  Speed,3=mod,0.75x;name,x0.75
                  Speed,4=mod,1x;name,x1
                  Speed,5=mod,1.5x;name,x1.5
                  Speed,6=mod,2x;name,x2
                  Speed,7=mod,3x;name,x3
                  Speed,8=mod,4x;name,x4
                  Speed,9=mod,8x;name,x8
                  Speed,10=mod,C200;name,C200
                  Speed,11=mod,C400;name,C400
                  Speed,12=mod,C600;name,C600
                  Speed,13=mod,C650;name,C650
                  Speed,14=mod,C700;name,C700

                  and my english.ini looks like:
                  x0.25=x0.25
                  x0.50=x0.50
                  x0.75=x0.75
                  x1=x1
                  x1.5=x1.5
                  x2=x2
                  x3=x3
                  x4=x4
                  x5=x5
                  x8=x8
                  C200=C200
                  C400=C400
                  C600=C600
                  C650=C650
                  C700=C700
                  Flat=FLAT

                  but the new cmods still don't show up on SM. Any suggestions?

                    Are you editing the correct metrics.ini file? Each theme uses its own so that could be your problem.

                        But there's something weird, whenever I choose the C400 icon to play, the actual speed in the game is C750 (the speed I need) but I wanna switch to C800

                          Still doesn't show off in SM.
                          But there's something weird, whenever I choose the C400 icon to play, the actual speed in the game is C750 (the speed I need) but I wanna switch to C800
                          No **** it isnt gonna work. SM cant support 55 speed mods in the menu. What are you thinking? Erase the unneeded ones and it should be fine.
