i've heard that it was good from some, and others say it's bad. idk what to really think of it. i've been using 3.9 for quite a while, and it seems to be perfect to me. is there anything better about 4.0, and can it play simfiles from 3.9? i also want to know if SM4.0 still has those bugs in it? last time my friend tried to download it from SMO and he got tons of viruses.

I downloaded, and were using 4.0 for a very long while (up to about a month ago). I got annoyed though by the fact I couldn't use many themes/ didn't seem to be any announcers, and no note skins seemed to work on my version.
I just downloaded 3.9 and have been using that. I just transported all my songs over, and have started afresh. -

If u want the ITG rolls in SM 3.9, juz get 3.95. It has the same default theme as 3.9. it has several themes for it, noteskins from 3.9 work on it and all songs are supported on it. Only thing is that it's a bitch for making stepfiles and it doesn't have Jukebox, also very bitchy with Windows Vista, so if u have Vista, I suggest not getting it.

4.0 supports online play which is probably the main reason why people might use it. if you aren't going to play online just stick with 3.9

However, that doesn't mean if you're running Vista you shouldn't install SM. It works perfectly fine aside from that one problem almost every Vista SM user encounters. I've been playing on a Vista computer for over 2 years now and nothing changes when you alternate between Vista and XP (speaking from personal experience).
But yeah, the question has already been answered. Stick with 3.9 or 3.95. 4.0 has some minor issues.Comment

If u want to play online, but u dnt want 4.0, get 3.95, if u want to make/edit stepfiles, use 3.9, juz depends on what u want bro, hope these posts answered ur question.

Negative BPM and stops are a glitch in SM3.9 and SM3.95 code (As Chris Danford stated)
it was removed in SM4
The final version of SM4 will give you the option to replicate negative BPM, But will not be Negative BPM/Stops.
