Re: Wicked dumb question but,
Open notepad, save as 'filename.dwi'.
Or copy it from some other simfile and just edit in the info. That's what I do.
Or you can do it all from StepMania.

Re: Wicked dumb question but,
What bluguerilla said; just make a new NotePad file and save it as whatever you want with .sm or .dwi at the end. However, it won't actually save as a .sm or .dwi until you enable file endings (like .exe, .jpeg, etc.) so you can erase the notepad extension at the end of the file and make it a true .sm or .dwi.Originally posted by Djr Rap dancerAlcohol make peoples retard.

Re: Wicked dumb question but,
www.stepmania.com Leave notepad to the pros.... I'm not one of them.
Slightly ninja'd. Go to the downloads section and get Stepmania 3.9.
Edit: My bad if you already have it. If so, do you need to know how to put a song into sm to step it?

Re: Wicked dumb question but,
So did you create the song file using the tools and package exporter?

Re: Wicked dumb question but,
Go to the stepmania folder wherever it was installed, and there should be the SM 3.9 thingy, a tools and packages exporter, a readme, and other stuff. Click the tools and package exporter, then at the bottom there is a button saying Create Song. Click that then find the .mp3 or .ogg file you were going to use for the song. After it says it successfully created it open SM and on the main menu go down to Edit Songs or whatever it says.
From there, you need to use something like Mixmeister or insanely good rhythm to find out the bpm of the song you are using. You can change the bpm of the song once you are in the editing screen of sm, using f7 and f8. The offset is also rather important, but you would do better to ask Patashu about that. Seek him out. From there, just step the song.
If you need more help, someone else will have to, because I gotta go. Good luck with it.Last edited by justin_ator; 12-19-2008, 01:21 PM.
