Can i get a basic tutorial of how to put in BPM changes properly and at the right times without screwing the stepfiles up. There are some songs ive downloaded that it make it so much more fun if the sm file had bpm changes to go with the music. But i would like to know how to incorporate the changes into my own, so i can get better steps done.

Press space on for example where you want a slowdown to start.

at where you would want the slowdown to end press space. that whole area should be red. press "Enter" and go to Compress 2x.
