This is the reasoned I signed up for this website in the first place, because I didn't know of any other site to find lots of simfile makers.
MMS, for those that don't know, is a music game event where gamers from the United States (and possibly abroad) get together and socialize, mainly (but not limited to) playing music games. There is another one this March--I went to MMS last year, and it was a blast.
The purpose of this tourney is to create a pack of files that will be used in an R21 pad tournament. In other words, yes, you are making pad files, but they don't have to be easy. Watch this video or this video if you don't believe me. Most people in this tournament will be able to pass what you make if it's around Emerald Sword or easier difficulty.
At this point, you're probably thinking "Well, I have no experience making pad files!" Don't worry. It's not complicated at all. I will post a separate guide that shows you how to make pad files if you're used to making spread files.
ETC
Rankings: This tourney will not use "1st place" or "2nd place". Instead, your files will be grouped into tiers. For all I know, there could be 30 files in the 1st tier and 2 files in the 2nd tier--it depends. There is no clear winner, though you guys can vote on one and receive an "honorary" winner if you want.
Judging: I plan to judge using mainly objective criteria. The only things I'm looking for are: 1) if your file is synced, and 2) if your file has excessive double steps. A "double step" is a step that makes a player spin around--this is bad because they can't look at the screen, so instead of spinning players just use two feet in a row to hit it.
RULES
Profanity/Obscenity: Profanity is allowed, but if it's 30 minutes of a guy saying racial slurs it's disqualified. Use your best judgment, because I can't make any objective rules about this. Nudity isn't allowed in background images, unfortunately.
Song length: Preferably, your song should be under 15 minutes long. If it's over 15 minutes, it's unlikely that anyone will be able to play it, so it'll probably be disqualified. Again, there are no strict rules about this, so if it's a choice between a 7 minute song and a 20 minute song, go with the 7 minute one. However, the shorter the better--if you can pick a shorter song, or cut it, do it.
Hard/Expert (Heavy/Challenge) steps: All charts should have hard steps and challenge steps; how hard or easy you want to make these is up to you. Anything else is optional and won't count towards your ranking.
BG/banner: All songs should have a bg/banner, though if you don't know how to make one or aren't very good at it, Rebirth has volunteered to make one for you.
DEADLINES/SUBMISSION
All simfiles should be completed and sent to [email protected] February 16th. I'll judge them and post the pack on the 17th.
That's pretty much it. This isn't a strict, KoFesque tourney, so you're free to go nuts.
