    Help with Stepmania

    Heres the thing:

When i play SM on my parent's desktop, the songs run 100% smoothly, but when i play it on my laptop, all the songs are lagged. I know all the songs are stepped right because i just put them on a disc and transfered them from the desktop and put them on my laptop and the fact that i gave the discs to a friend and they work 100% with him. Is there any way i can fix this or am i doomed to play a laggy SM for life? I really want to get back into SM and get way better than i was before.

How a song is stepped is nearly irrelevant to how fast plays. It's the computer that plays the file that will make SM go slower. It sounds like your laptop isn't fast enough to play SM without lagging. Try lowering any graphic options and see if it won't lag while playing on your laptop.

This worked on my lappy so...

      Go into StepMania.ini in NotePad...
Go to the line labeled "VideoRenderers"
      Should be "=opengl,d3d"
      Remove opengl. Save file. Done.

If this doesn't work (or sometimes StepMania keeps putting opengl back in there, if so I'll show you how to put together a Static.ini for it), then yeah, no lappy SM for you.

I believe the choice to choose between OpenGL and DirectX is in the graphics options.

Whichever one is faster on your computer is completely dependent on the graphics card you have.

Not on any theme I've seen, especially since most standard running auto-detection on StepMania uses them both.
