PS2 Dance Pad to USB connection? (Stepmania tech question)

My friend has stepmania and he plays with his dance pad but he doesn't have one of those fancy RedOctane dance pads with the USB cable on it.

He uses some sort of little "gadget" thing that you can plug a PS2 dance pad into this "gadget" and then the "gadget" has a USB connecter cable that plug into the computer.

My question is what is this "gadget" called so I can get one? >.<

I've seen them everywhere when trying to buy a pad...I think red0ctane also sells them.

Uh, don't try buying a USB converter without looking into them first. Chances are you'll get a piece of **** that doesn't do ****ing any **** except get you ****ing mad! **** **** ****!!! As you can tell, I would know

Try looking in these threads, BMS always know what they're talking about when it comes to this:

As for me, I would not even suggest getting a USB converter, but instead buying one of these:

They're far cheaper, easier, and more reliable. If you don't have an LPT port it won't work though.

well an adaptor is nice but sometimes depending on the system to the pad it might not work for the arrows either for the doubles or something like that... but jsut look around and you might see something that might be better. i usualy go for a all purpose or better yet invest in one of those that are durable and can connect using a usb and to a few other systems or something likethat.

When I got my first DDR game I went all out and got RedOctane stainless steel metal mats and USB connectors and all sorts of adaptors and such. All that stuff worked with my metal mats on SM but when I got Supernova it came with a plastic mat and I got attached to it and ditched the metal mats and now when I use the same USB connectors with the plastic mat to play SM my computer says it can't recognize them and I can't play SM with my plastic mat. So then I had to go out and get new ones for the plastic mat. So in my experience it really depends on the type of mat you have.
