    A Problem with Stepmania

Okay, well I've had Stepmania for a number of months now, and I've gotten pretty good at it. But somehow, I can never full-combo any song.

    Why?

Lag. For some reason, Stepmania seems to randomly lag during songs and it either pauses the song for some matter of seconds, or moves 2-3 measures ahead.

It's very frustrating not being able to full-combo a 3-difficulty song. Any help?

Well Sometimes if you have too many programs at once running you could have problems. Example-- If i have msn the internet and limewire running i might get major lag .. that or theres not enough space left on your computer. Try shutting down some programs and try to delete stuff.. make some more room if that doesnt work then im not too sure.

      Try defragmenting your computer.

        Re: A Problem with Stepmania

@Finality: I don't really have any applications running, it's usually just Stepmania, Trillian (AIM-thingy), and.. well, a firewall. >_>

@Sulfur: Well, I don't think it's a problem outside of Stepmania. Any other games I play on the computer that I have Stepmania on work rather well, with almost no lag whatsoever. But I'll try defragmenting and see what happens...

Stepmania doesnt use the internet so another thing to do would be to disable the internet connection while you use the program and re-enable it when your done. i find that one of yet, another ways i use to speed things up. (you can put a shortcut so you can double click to enable and disable it instantly.. Just a hint ^^ Hope it helps.

There may be some programs running in the background that's slowing down your computer. This is generally caused by spyware and/or viruses. Try doing a spyware and/or virus scan, and see if it speeds up your computer. Also, be sure to close any unneccessary programs (Ex. a internet browser window that you're not using anymore).

Also, defragment your computer. This helps make space on your harddrive. And, one final thing, delete any old files/programs/folders that you do not wish to use anymore. This includes music, pictures, programs such as video games, etc., any stuff like that that you don't play/use anymore.

Also, if you have uploaded a picture to an image hoster, delete the picture you uploaded. If you ever need it again, you can just go to your image hoster, log in, and save the picture again. This helps save space on your harddrive and stuff.

Finally, if this doesn't help StepMania run better, then try turning off your firewall. Your firewall may, or may not, be denying StepMania's access, and you should check to see if StepMania is being allowed. This goes for all PC games, as your firewall can block their access. If you are able to allow StepMania, then go on right ahead. If you can't, try turning off your firewall temporarily until you are done playing StepMania.

I just defragemented my computer, and I didn't really notice anything. I'll temporarily disable my internet and turn off the firewall and see what happens, cause I don't really have much else on my computer other than Stepmania. =o

                UGH. Any other suggestions?... =(
Do you think reinstalling Stepmania would help?

Reinstalled, but I'm getting the same problems. T_T

                    UGHHHHHHH.

[Edit] - I just noticed, this lag is also affecting Spin It Up and FFR. Do you think it's my computer's problem?

I would say you have a worm problem, not a Stepmania problem. Scan your computer thoroughly for viruses, adware, and spyware. Your system is likely infected...

                        Re: A Problem with Stepmania

I scanned my computer once, but anything I removed from the system (mostly spyware) did not influence the lag at all: it's still there...

I'll try scanning for viruses again, maybe it missed something. >.>
