It's possible that your keyboard has a slow reaction time, AKA cannot register multiple keypresses in a given time, which, in this case, would be like 1 milisecond. Anyways, make sure to do the following:

        - Make sure you don't have spyware/viruses. Do this by doing a spyware/virus scan.
        - Make sure that you have nothing running in the background that may be slowing your keyboard's registration time (some stuff might be viruses/spyware).
        - See if turning off your firewall will fix the problem.
        - Try going to Test Input in the Options menu, and see if you can't find a combination of keys that register properly.
        - You may have to get a new keyboard.

I'll second that. I have found that, if you can play using a spread set, that the computer can handle two letter keys (in my case, B and N) and two number pad keys (8 and 6 for me) a lot better than most other setups.

Really, though, it doesn't take much more than a little $30 Logitech keyboard from Wal-Mart. That's what I have, and I can pass some pretty tough ****.

Well, this may be a "duh of course not" question, but is your keyboard wireless? If it is, there's obviously going to be some delay in the reaction time.

Assuming you aren't using one, the keyboard itself is the only problem/solution when it comes to finding a combination of keys that can be pressed at the same time without conflicts. Most Dell (black) and Logitech keyboards are pretty handy when it comes to duration and performance. The keyboard's ability to register a combination of keys relies solely on the keyboard itself. If you don't like it, simply get a new one.

Does anyone know how I can change it so that the pc(or keyboard) accepts quad or tri steps?

                        Re: Very annoying problem!

                        1. Open a notepad file.
                        2. Press e, r, u, and i at the same time.
If they all appear in the file at the same time, then:
                        3. Go into Stepmania.
                        4. Options -> Key Config
                        5. Set e as the left arrow, i as the right arrow, u as the up arrow, and r as the down arrow.

You should now have a setup where all 4 arrows can be pressed at the same time.

FFR4EVA - there is a far easier way.

Just go to key config, set 4 keys, go back in options, very bottom option is "test results" or something, try your keys, if you can push all 4 then it works, if not, go back to key config and try new ones. By all means set up 6 key setups at once and try all 6, you can always remove them after.
