    Invalid zip archive? Initial beat?

I just downloaded my first song, and it won't open! It's a .smzip and I get an error saying "[file name] is an invalid zip archive". I tried opening it with smzipackage or whatever (which I found on the program list but didn't find it anywhere else) and it gives me the same error.

    What do I do?

Also, I tried creating a song, and the tutorial says that I need to specify the initial beat, and I do this by opening the song using the editor. What editor? And how do I do this?

As a side note, the tutorials at stepmania are really horrible. They have yet to help me with anything.

The zip file you have is probably corrupted, meaning it won't work at all. Get a different song.

To open up the editor, make sure you have the mp3 or ogg you want to make steps for in its own folder in a category folder, in the "Songs" folder of stepmania. Then, open up stepmania and choose "Edit Songs / Courses" from the main menu, and choose your song. It's pretty easy to figure out from there if you use the help shortcuts.

The "beat" is used by using a certain program finding the BPM.
Or you could just tap your spacebar to the beat and after a minute, see how many beats there were (but that's just how I do it sometimes).
      Example:
You tap the spacebar 200 times each beat. The BPM is 200.
For the corrupt file, redownloading it might help.

        You mean each minute, right?

Abbas, if you want to create a new song, start in notepad (yes, notepad) to make things like the title and initial "beat" (bpm), and enter what .mp3 or .ogg file you'll use for a song. There's a good FAQ here on the Forums, just go here:
