    Finding the Gap

I'm having trouble finding the gap for the .dwi, or beat offset for .smfiles. Yes I've read the sticky but I just don't get it. I know I can make good files if I have the gap, because all the files I made I just stole the gap off someone else.

I have Goldwave and Audacity, (Audacity seems kinda worthless for this) but I'm not understanding how to actualy find the gap.

    Help?

    Re: Finding the Gap

Set your snap to 64th notes, then play the song in the editor. Hit escape right when you hear the first note and the current second in the top right shows the time when the first note happens, which is the gap.
It probably won't be exact enough so when you put some more arrows in, use auto adjust to get the gap more precise when you play it.

All assuming you have the right bpm and there are no bpm changes in the song.
YOU JUST WON THE GAME! CONGRATULATIONS!

So the BPM, affects the gap?

(I know how to do everything with the BPM)

For anyone reading this thread that doesn't have winBPM:

Because it can be tricky to find. (sorta)

        Re: Finding the Gap

the BPM will only affect you if your first note is not the first beat in the file

the way i find BPM is to slow down to 0.3x music and change to 8x speed mod in sync editor and just listen for the first note

        and adjust accordingly (F11/F12 iirc)

edit: alternately you could use an audio editing program to find the gap which is rly ez
        hehe

How close would the BPM have to be? I think it would depend on the length of the song right.

            Re: Finding the Gap

You want the BPM to be close enough such so that, if you put a string of quarter notes throughout the entire song and put assist tick on, it wouldn't desync by the end.

            So, like, perfect, yeah.

The stepfile is coming along awesomely. If anyone could make me some graphics for this song that would be good (I can't use photoshop because I don't have windows XP). I would give credit in the upload, if you would even care I don't know.

Song is: You Bring Out The Hate In Me (DJ Bike Remix)
                Author: MC Rage

It's a gabber song with oodles of F bombs. Mail it to me or post it here, my email is [email protected]

                Please and thanks.
