I've been trying to make stepfiles for a while now, and they usually come out quite disastrous. I'm using the Stepmania editor, because I can't efficiently write out the stepfile in notepad.
First of all, in the stepmania editor, how do you judge where the end of the song is? In order to start recording, you have to select a certain area, and it's hard to know at which point the song ends. It tells you on the side what number you're at, but does that have anything to do with the time length of the song?
How do you add multiple freezes and/or bpm changes? I've seen the site's FAQ on stepfile creation and they seem to just skip over this.
How do you get an accurate BPM rating? I mean REALLY accurate. I've tried using some key-pressing programs and the bpm I get always sets the whole song out of sync.
Finally, is there any way to record with the song slowed down? Think about it.. if you could put on "musicx0.7" mode while recording, when you put the speed back to musicx1.0 it would be that much more accurate.
