Dance pad

I recently got a dance pad, "Dancing Street" and I can't get it to register both left&right or down&up at the same time, but it can register left&up and right&down etc.

Is this the problem with the compatibility or the pad? I'm connecting it through an adaptor...

It might be connecting as a joystick. Joysticks can't register left-right at the same time or down-up at the same time, obviously.
