Banners and Backgrounds

Apparently, the format that an image is in affects how quickly it loads on my ancient, ten-year old computer. PNG files load instantly, and no lag occurs, yet anything that's in JPG format makes me lag for several seconds, as though my computer is struggling to even show the image at all. Anyone know how to change the format of an image to PNG? This is really, REALLY a problem for me.

1. Open in paint
2. Save as png
3. Delete jpg or open the .sm or .dwi and manually change the image reference
4. ???
5. Profit

Something else must be the issue here. It cannot be the .jpg format itself. Can you give us some specs on your machine?

Uh...Pentium II processor, 64 Megs of ram, 4 gigs on the hard drive...I think you see how bad this is.
