Over the past few weeks, I noticed a few odd things while dancing with StepMania. (Before you ask: Buy 'n Shop parallel port adapter, Stepmania v. 3.0, using NTPAD drivers.)
The first was that doubles weren't always getting registered. Then I noticed, hey, it's doing that with single arrows too.
So, the first thing I do is check out the keymap settings. I clear all of them, and as I reset them, the program seems to think there are two different buttons on the same arrow. The one that's invading all the other map settings is Joy1 10. Depending on how many times I map the control, it maps as either the correct one or joy1 10. I had to delete the map for the start button on the pad.
The second problem, and the more severe one:
A while ago, part of the wiring of my BNSUSA Dx Xtreme dance pad came loose due to breaking that little black bit that holds it to the black control box (the part that lights when activated by a step). This was fixed by wrappig electrical tape around the part of wiring that was out of the black rubber sleeve. The pad still worked perfectly, no wires were broken.
... until now. While trying to troubleshoot the Stepmania problem, I decided to check under the black tape. I don't know if I did it or if it had been like that for a bit, but the grey-colored wire is disconnected, and I can't find the other end of the wire to splice it to.
Does anyone have info on the wiring of this type of pad? Is it safe to open the black control part to try to find the missing wire end to splice or solder them back together?
