Technical help needed regarding a pad's wiring.

Over the past few weeks, I noticed a few odd things while dancing with StepMania. (Before you ask: Buy 'n Shop parallel port adapter, Stepmania v. 3.0, using NTPAD drivers.)

The first was that doubles weren't always getting registered. Then I noticed, hey, it's doing that with single arrows too.

So, the first thing I do is check out the keymap settings. I clear all of them, and as I reset them, the program seems to think there are two different buttons on the same arrow. The one that's invading all the other map settings is Joy1 10. Depending on how many times I map the control, it maps as either the correct one or joy1 10. I had to delete the map for the start button on the pad.

The second problem, and the more severe one:

A while ago, part of the wiring of my BNSUSA Dx Xtreme dance pad came loose due to breaking that little black bit that holds it to the black control box (the part that lights when activated by a step). This was fixed by wrappig electrical tape around the part of wiring that was out of the black rubber sleeve. The pad still worked perfectly, no wires were broken.

... until now. While trying to troubleshoot the Stepmania problem, I decided to check under the black tape. I don't know if I did it or if it had been like that for a bit, but the grey-colored wire is disconnected, and I can't find the other end of the wire to splice it to.

Does anyone have info on the wiring of this type of pad? Is it safe to open the black control part to try to find the missing wire end to splice or solder them back together?

First off: Get the latest version of 3.9 (RC4 I believe).

Don't really care enough to read the rest of your post, sorry =\

Hey, the main issue has to do with the pad, if you would bother to read it.

I don't use 3.9 because it doesn't work nicely with my computer, i.e., it reacts very inaccurately to my pad.

That's really odd. First off, you might want to try downloading the final release of StepMania. Second, there are a LOT of USB connectors that are NOT compatible with StepMania. In your specific case, I'm not sure it could be found whether or not it does work, but be warned that there are only a few connectors that actually work properly.

Also, if the gray wire is disconnected, I doubt you could find any documentation online, but if the pad is still under warranty, call the manufacturer and see what your options are. Opening the box will likely void your warranty, and soldering wires in this case is not a good idea if you're a rookie solderer. If all the arrows still work, though, I don't think you have to worry.

Hope that helps clear some things up.

          The down arrow is shot.

The adaptor is listed as compatible and has served me well in the past.

I'm fine with soldering, I work with computers and have built a few, so i'm fine there. I was just hoping for a guide to be prepared.

            Okay, WTF!

I took off the black plastic casing that was over the wiring, you know, the bit that lights up?

            THERE IS NO GREY WIRE.

There is no spot for my non-existant wire to go, either.

So i've got a severed wire on one end, and nothing on the other. The bit that's missing is nowhere in the pad, there is nowhere that looks to be missing a wire, so in effect, i've got a spare wire from hell itself taunting me.

My head hurts thinking about it...
