When my friend downloaded StepMania, he got some kind of virus too. It wasn't too serious, I'm pretty sure, so that's good. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, is there any way to avoid this/what should he do?

Where did he download it from? Are you sure it was from Stepmania? Either way, you won't need to download it again unless a new version comes out.
