    About pads....

What all do I need to play stepmania with a pad? Just a pad (like cobalt flux), a converter from ps2 controller input to usb, and a stepfile that is classified as pad and not keyboard?

Sorry if this is on the wrong forum; I put it here because if I get a pad I plan to use it on Stepmania (if possible).

That's all you need. It doesn't matter if the simfile is for Pad or Keyboard though, the good pad players play Keyboard songs on their pads all the time.

If you buy a PS2 USB adapter, make sure it has a driver that goes along with it. I'd get this one: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ucts_id=3833&#

Really, that's all you need, but I like to take my laptop with me somewhere and my projector and show off. Just an idea.

        Thanks, Gamepro.

CtrlAlt, that's a pretty good idea . I should do this for the talent show .

Yeah Hekt. Buy a Xbox to USB converter instead of a PS2 to USB converter.

Yeah, the projector idea is really cool. We had a tourney here at PSU and used projectors and my Flux's, except...well, it didn't work out as well as we wanted. The projector screen was too high up, and you had a tendency to lose your orientation on the pad (esp. the Flux's since the panels aren't lowered and you can't "feel" where you are) and wind up falling off or shifting to non-active panels like the corners.

Talent show idea - it's a good one, but make sure you do more than just hit the arrows when you're supposed to. I notice at the arcade that people only watch you play for about a minute or so when you're just hitting arrows - they stay attuned much longer if you freestyle.

Velious must be jealous that he doesn't have Flux's

Kosuki - from the sound of it, you have either a Cobalt Flux pad or another metal pad which has active corner arrows and/or a more complicated setup than regular pads do. You WILL NOT be able to get it to work just by plugging it into your computer. Contact the manufacturer, since you might need what's called a Control Box to make the pad actually function.
