how do iget a background

i made a song but i dont know how to get a background into the game. How do i save the file the name of my file is "sodback"

You find/make a picture that you want to make you BG, and put it in the folder of your song...

dude... go look at some other songs you have, and compare your filename with the correctly done file names.... you should be able to figure it out fairly quickly.

same thing you should have done with the zip file vs folder...

Then,
The filename of banner should be [shimmy.jpg]
BG should be [shimmy-BG.bmp].

and BMP(bitmap) is too large size, so use JPG or PNG format.

Sorry to post again on this topic, but i cannot get my banner on background to work i have been trying for days. in my song folder i have, onlyyou(music file), onlyyou(SMFILE) onlyyou(DWI FILE) and onlyyou.JPG(banner) and finally onlyyou-BG.JPG(background) i don't know what im doing wrong.

I know there a little cruddy but it is my first try. Please try and help me

Dont they have to be .png for them to work, not .jpg?

.jpg will work.

With the later versions of StepMania, adding graphics after creating the .sm file makes StepMania not able to register them. What you need to do is edit the .sm file manually (use Notepad) and find these:

#BANNER:;
#BACKGROUND:;

You need to put the filenames of your corresponding graphics inbetween each colon and semicolon, like this:

#BANNERnlyyou.JPG;
#BACKGROUNDnlyyou-BG.JPG;

Then reload your songs and they'll show up.

Personally, I don't use the .sm.

You don't need it.

use 600x400 png's instead, edit the sm/dwi file with a simple editor such as notepad or something, and then play SM.
