files for making songs

right now i have my .dwi, a song, and a BG. do i need to make a seperate file for it to work in SM? i'm making the file in DWI

The DWI File should be a notepad file, I think. The bg is ok, but usually the bg's and bn's are jpegs. You need a banner though. 256x80 in size.

Ok lets start out.

1. Have your banners with .png format.
2. Have your mp3 as .mp3
3. Have your DWI as .dwi not text format.

#TITLE:Song;
#ARTIST:Song Artist;
#FILE:Song.mp3;
#BPM:Song's BPM (its in numbers);
#GAP:0;

Use this to start out. Then when you've done so come back here.

k i think i got all that done

i started out with this:
#FILE:Asian Rave.MP3;
#TITLE:Asian Rave;
#ARTIST:Techno;
#SAMPLESTART:110.000;
#SAMPLELENGTH:20.000;
#BPM:140;
#GAP:0;

i also am almost half-way thru making the song

EDIT: alot of people have seperate SM files, what up with that?

That's just a format that Stepmania made.. it only works in Stepmania. SM can read DWI's too, so it isn't required.
