Why stepmania?

It seems like more games are played on stepmania than on FFR, is there a reason why? All the scores on bragboard are SM, and none FFR.

I don't really like stepmania because I don't know even the difficulty of the songs till I try it, plus I'm use to playing arrows going down... :/

you can change the scroll to reverse and itll go down..
