any way to get it back?

ddream crashed as it was saving and deleted the whole .sm file
It was a 7 minute file and I was mostly done so losing everything is pretty annoying.

Those feelings when a song is longer than 10 minutes in ddream and has a 1/100 chance of crashing for every note you place.

There's a folder in the ddream folder specifically for backups. Just grab the last backup of the file that it did and place it in the song folder and you're good to go

That happened to me too with a really long marathon file. WV was actually the one who told me about the backup folder even existing and I was able to get back my previous save.

            ...

It crashes while saving, deleting the whole file (the previous save), in case that wasn't clear.

Just curious, where is the backup folder, or the ddream folder for that matter? It's not mentionned in the ddreamstudio guide. I just have ddreamstudio.exe on my desktop, so I don't know where the folders are made.
edit: oh, I found it just by opening the location of the ddreamstudio shortcut I was using. However, the backups do not seem to update for me (all tat is in the backup folder is from 2014). Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I used a shortcut in the first place? I'm not sure I understand how the feature works, to be honest.

If there's a crash bug in edit mode, especially one that occurs while saving, report it with any info you have. Stepmania doesn't delete the autosave file until after the save completes successfully, so even if it crashes during saving you shouldn't be set back more than 5 minutes.

I've had a terrible experience with both playing and stepping shit in StepMania, where the client will just crash without any recovery options.

Once again, does anyone know what might cause backups not to be made? I have backups from 2014, but not from 2015. What can be an explanation of that?

You started using ddream from a different file path than the backup folder you're looking at, or you turned off auto-backups. There's an option to turn it off even though it's on by default.

                              Except that it doesn't

ddream is like, so much better for everything except Xmod / files with stops (as I've been trying my hand at this recently I find I actually considered using SM5 for this particular file) imho.

And I don't really have the crashing issues people seem to complain about, like I get the stuttering bug, but aside from that everything's dandy on my end.
