stepmania 5 help

so i just got a new laptop and i decided to download sm5, but it wont start and i keep getting an error message. stepmania cant open because d3ddx9.dll is missing

edit: also im using windows 8

extract and move d3ddx9.dll to sm5 folder

edit: It worked for me. I guess it depends on the user's os.

unless stepmania 5 installations differ on windows 8, i'm pretty sure that's not going to fix your problem. grab the directx end-user runtime from microsoft's website and you shouldn't get this error message anymore.

EDIT: that .dll may work for stepmania 5, but it's likely to pop up again for anything else that uses directx
