I need some feedback/constructive criticism

K so, this is the literately the first time I've ever tried stepping. I spent like 2-3 hours looking up how to step properly and I decided to do something relatively easy to start with.

This was the result:

This is still a wip and I dunno if I'm cutting it yet, I might just step the entire thing. All I'm looking for is some feedback on what I could do to make this better. Thanks in advance. :3

well first off, it seems like you've got syncing and putting steps to correct beats down.

you also seem to love using hands but for that song it didnt' really seem necessary because i didn't notice any big increase in sound or loudness for hands when compared to normal jumps


also, song choice could be better.. it sounds pretty repetitive (so a cut would be pretty nice) - otherwise, for your first time stepping, it's a great start.

You've got the rhythm down, now just focus on putting in patterns..

In my opinion the 3 major steps are knowing the rhythm (listen to the song), inserting notes (rough draft), and then go back and make them into beautiful patterns (final draft)

Patterns is where instrumentation comes in. When you hear that bass, for instance, some people try inserting a left arrow for each time the bass hits, regardless if it includes a jump (for a different instrument) or other notes in between each bass hit.

A good example is powerpuff gabberz, play that and you can see what Hammy does in that and it's pretty genius actually haha.. Just keep experimenting and getting more experienced
Another would be La campanella, WC did a good job syncing the arrows with the actual notes on a piano

EXCELLENT job for the first time you've ever stepped though.. You should see my first song, it's awful....

Thanks for the feedback. And yeah, I was really really iffy on the hands. It was pretty much the reason why I made this thread. Glad I made this thread because I wasn't really too sure how this file would look to some people if I just made it without feedback and submitted it to something.

Haha dont ever be scared of looking for a second opinion :P i have friends look at stuff for me for pretty much everything i make or produce, It's very very helpful haha

Ironically enough I actually thought syncing was going to be the hardest part for stepping but for the most part it's not because I don't really plan on stepping anything with insane BPM changes just yet.

I originally had jumps where the hands were but I thought to myself "Ok jeez this is going to be boring to play." so I made them hands.

try to avoid sections like that near the end (hand+singles) because FFR judges h8 lots of hands (esp the ones at end of your file)

but on stepmania, hand usage is kool

speaking as an ffr judge i dont hate hands. actually no one hates hand and its a common misconception. please add as many hands as you want when submitting to ffr

I'd honestly believe that if Futsuu No Uta wasn't in game. Although I can see where you're getting at. Just, the file feels really plain and awkward without them so if it gets denied then whatever, it's cool.

well im not saying hands are bad all the time

what i should be saying is: correctly using hands takes a lot of stepping skill, and there are not many songs that justify the usage of many hands in succession

but if used well, hands can help make gr8 stepfiles (it's just that it's rly hard to pull off)

if ur gonna submit to ffr though, good luck! u should've stepped earlier and sent it in a few days ago
