Stepmania Issues?

Yeah so its no big news that I play Stepmania. I had it on a nice 5 year old Dell. My keyboards were all PS/2 connections. It was beautiful.

Yeahh, well that computer crashed and so I have this new one. Vista [yeah..i know...kill me now], 3GB RAM, nifty lil GFX card, and now a USB connecting keyboard.

Here's the problem:
Stepmania's response time is BALLZ. Is there anyway to help this because I NEED my stepmania and its just not working out -_-"

you can do yourself 1 HUGE favor and uninstall windows vista and break it/burn it/blow it up...etc....and go get windows xp and im serious vista sucks THAT bad i feel so bad for you i might go out and buy you windows xp SP 2 cuz i feel that bad lol

and what do mean as response time? as in from when you press an arrow to when the arrow is pressed on stepmania? or is it just bad frame rates? remember you can never go into TOO much detail of your problem, the more details the more easier it is to solve

The response time i am talking about is the time it takes stepmania to register my keystrokes. everything esle [text wise] reads it in an instant. i had the ****tiest Dell and it did a damn good job with Stepmania and now this new computer is balls with it.

im seriously thinking its Vista + USB root hub saturation. im pissed -_-"

Vista is great, I'm gonna just guess your using 3.9 or 3.95.

Stepmania/Data Stepmania.ini

Change SoundDrivers= to SoundDrivers=WaveOut. Vista no longer supports Directsound.



PS:There is nothing wrong with vista anymore people, get over it.

and i do agree with the "nothing wrong with it"
it is pretty smooth and natural to me, but this whole SM thing is the ONLY flaw i hate --/

Stepmania uses Directsound, so it causes arrow lag with vista. Give it a shot.

Turn vsync on then try it again.

nothing wrong with vista....all over EVERY forum there still continuous VISTA problems out the butt. vista also doubles the ammount of RAM needed to play games and increase of cpu speed which is just not worth its visual upgrade. sure if you have a godly computer like i do then it really doesnt matter about that upgraded system requirements but it still sacrifices precious framerates you could be getting on games.

I have a Quadcore CPU and my GPU isn't too bad either. I have had no problems with vista and any other program. I am heavy into photoshop and audio/music programs and it handles it with ease. just the one program i love the most seems to just suck with the whole USB thing.

someone told me it might be USB root hub saturation. i have no idea how to fix that problem. also, i tried the vsync trick. didnt do too well either -_-"

i have DLed SM 4.0 and used the audio calibration sync and it worked out pretty well, but now all i need is a "3.9" theme for my 4.0

I used to have one a long time ago, but i cant seem to find it ANYWHERE
