    Math Problems for Credits (The Game)

    Since Leo made two threads dedicated to solving a math problem, I decided to make a game dedicated to doing the same thing.

    Math problem for credits!!
    Math problem for credits 2!!

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Each correct answer will be worth 250 credits, 500 credits, 1000 credits, or more; depending on the difficulty.

    DO NOT PLAY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CREDITS!!!

    When it's you turn, you have to make a math problem, post it, and tell people whether it's right or not. Your math problem must be solvable to the answer you have. If nobody is able to solve the problem, you may post another.

    You must have the credits ready when the question is answered correctly.

    If x2 + y2 = 100, and xy = 18, find the value of x - y.

    Worth: 250 credits

      Re: Math Problems for Credits (The Game)

      Let me give a try at this.

      Code:
      y=18/x and x^2+y^2=100

      x^2+(18/x)^2=100
      x^2+324/x^2=100
      (x^4+324)/x^2=100
      x^4+324=100x^2
      x^4-100x^2+324=0

      x^2=(100ħsqrt(10000-4*324))/2
      x^2=(100ħsqrt(8704))/2
      x^2=(100ħ16sqrt(34))/2
      x^2=50ħ8sqrt(34)
      x=ħsqrt(50ħ8sqrt(34))
      x=ħ4ħsqrt(34)

      x1=-4-sqrt(34)
      x2=-4+sqrt(34)
      x3=4-sqrt(34)
      x4=4+sqrt(34)

      y1=4-sqrt(34)
      y2=4+sqrt(34)
      y3=-4-sqrt(34)
      y4=-4+sqrt(34)

      x1-y1=-8
      x2-y2=-8
      x3-y3=8
      x4-y4=8

      Answer: {ħ8}

        Something is wrong with this, as we don't know which one will be X or Y, how can we just simply say "That'll be X and that'll be Y". Look, I'll do the same thing but way easier:

        If A+B=5 and A*B=6, what would A-B worth?

        One of the letter is 3 and the other is 2. The answer may be either 1 or -1.

          emerald got it.

          I must ask you if you have the credits to enter an equation.

            Re: Math Problems for Credits (The Game)

            I have way too much credits on my hands. After some thinking of a math problem, here's what I came up with:

            Solve this system of equation:

            x^4+y^4+z^4+1^4 = (y+x+z+1)^4
            y^3+z^3+x^3+1^3 = (z+y+x+1)^3
            z^2+x^2+y^2+1^2 = (x+z+y+1)^2

            1000 credits to the winner.

              I can get the answer to that, it's not tough, just rediculously long... up to 256 characters I believe...

              well I might write it out if someone can answer this -

              do there exist two irrational numbers p , q such that p^q is rational?

                    I dunno, e^Ln(2).

                    Edit: Oh, I have to post a problem now... brb...

                    When does 6*8 = 42?

                    Reward: 48 credits.

                    Edit2: = emerald, {x,y,z} = {0,0,0}

                      Answer: In base 13.

                      Problem: If 3^(x^2) = 10^(1134^1337), what does x equal? Must be written in scientific notation and coefficient must be rounded to zero decimal places.

                      Your reward: 1,000 credits.
