Semi-transparent Backgrounds?

How can I adjust the opacity of the backgrounds where there's text on my profile?

I've seen it done before, but I don't know how to go about doing it.

Select background layer in Photoshop, and on the right side of the screen is OPACITY.

Put in a new fill layer(Alt+Delete), and there won't be those checkered boxes.

The boxes are just indicating that there is no color behind it.

Sorry, misread your question.

Just go to the Style editor, and set Border Width to "None"
