Simultaneous up+down press no longer registers

Exactly what the title says. I assume this is a keyboard problem, because the same thing happens when I type in notepad. With the numpad: 4+6 types "46", 8+2 types nothing. The up+down works with the regular arrow keys, just not the numpad. Like I said, this is almost definitely an issue with my keyboard or with windows, but I thought someone might have a clue how to fix it anyway. Thanks.

[edit] My old style was 2 hands 4 fingers all on numpad. Now that that no longer works, it seems like a good time to switch to spread.

If it's a keyboard problem, there's no easy way to fix it since keyboards are complexly built to accept all the common combinations of keys using as few parts; whether or not a more complex combination will work depends on the keyboard. You need a new keyboard or a new setup.
