At random I fill in 3 till 4.
Mostly I get songs with difficulty 7 or 8.
Then I just hit a few notes and my score goed down alot..

back and um random works fine make sure that you're actually changing the difficulties

Random works great, I got 100BB the first time and Ride on the Black Dragon the 2nd time. Make sure your LOWEST is set to 3 and HIGHEST is set to 4.

No, you can't just type them in. You have to click those little up/down arrows beside the numbers.
