    Three suggestions

    The sync on FFR is on-beat for the most part but becomes more of a nuanced issue when you're dealing with faster arrow patterns that can easily turn your "perfects" into "goods" when the syncing is off. In fact, for some songs (such as Strangeprogram) I've found myself actually muting the volume when I try for a higher score. To fix this, I think the best solution would be an autosync modeled after the AutoSync in Stepmania that aligns the song's arrows to a certain gap based on the user's input and keeps that value in your user account. I'm not sure how FFR would achieve this, however.

    The reason I think the difference in sync occurs is during the conversion process--chart makers often sync the songs to their computer, and Stepmania syncing does vary quite a bit depending on the computer.

    The second suggestion I'd like to make is re-ordering (or standardizing) difficulty. Right now there's several measures of difficulty: the 1-99 system mentioned in this thread, the )))))) system (I don't know what to call it), and the system where each difficulty has a name (such as "For Master's Only). I don't have a preference regarding either of these because difficulty ratings are arbitrary and artificial to begin with, but I think you should pick one and standardize it to make things easier.

    The third suggestion I'd like to make is allowing the user to pick speed mods like in R2. Right now 1.75 is a bit too slow for me and 2.0 a bit too fast--my ideal would be somewhere around 1.88 or 1.85. I suspect other people have this same issue.

    Re: Three suggestions

    Arch, a lot of these issues have been brought up before...

    1. Can't recall very many people (if anyone) complaining about SP being offsync. We do what we can to make sure all the songs are as close as possible. The thing you have to remember is that FFR runs at 30fps, whereas SM runs off of ms timing. You CAN'T sync something in FFR to closer than .03333 accurately. Anything smaller than that, and it will only work for some arrows and not all. The notes are automatically rounded to the closest frame.

    So, the fix to that is to switch to ms timing... or switch to 60fps (like SIU), which is the minimum plan for 3rd style.

    2nd... the ((((((((( and the Tricky, Challenging, For Guru's Only difficulties directly align. Both of those systems have been around since 2003... so, you should already know that. If you count the number of (((((, it directly adds up to the appropriate number for the word difficulty.
    1 = for beginners only
    2 = easiest
    3 = very easy
    4 = easy
    5 = standard
    6 = tricky
    7 = difficult
    8 = very difficult
    9 = challenging
    10 = very challenging
    11 = FMO
    12 = FGO

    3rd... again, the reason this isn't possible is because of 30fps. doing weird speedmods would make the arrows scroll really choppily.

      About that third suggestion, why is 1.85 a wierd speed mod? I would imagine having speed mods like 1.75, 1.80, 1.85, 1.90, 2.00 would be pretty neat, as I also have the same feeling about 1.75 being too slow and 2.00 being too fast.

      I have no idea how much effort and time that would require, but going in increments of .05 would probably be a lot easier than having increments of .01 for every possible speed out there.

        by weird, i mean anything other than what we currently have. and, as i said... it's because of 30fps and how it would look all choppy and crappy. it wouldn't scroll smooth.

          Re: Three suggestions

          So what makes 1.75x and 2x scroll smoother then something else? Does it have to do with fractions of the frame rate or something. I think 1x to 3x in .25 increments would be good as presets if that's all.

          Also I'm not sure if archowl is really have the problem of needing in between 1.75 and 2x or not i figured hes just showing an example cause i would expect him to do at least C600 on stepmania. Which is figured to be the equivilent of 2x.

                I like the speed idea of Arch's. Like he said, 1.75 is too slow, and 2 is just too fast. 1.85 would be a nice fit or something around there.
