Hard Difficulty and how it should work (IMO)

I think that when the player FCs a song, the hard mode for that song is available for the shop. After buying it, the player can select the song normally but before clicking it again, he/she can click on the Difficulty stat (where it says something like "Difficulty: ))))" and then it that will change to something like "Difficulty: ))))))))". (notice how it changes to red). Then clicking it again restores it to normal.

FFR doesn't need 100 difficulties a song, but having an unlockable & buyable hard mode for each song would be good. Where do we get all these stepfiles? A forum can be set up and stepfilers can offer to make a hard mode for a song of their choosing. Then a Mod sends them the song and normal stefile and then stepfiler makes a hard version of it and sends it back. (I guess this paragraph is kinda obvious)

This isn't a high priority subject but it will be cool if one day in the future (as opposed to the past :P ) we get this running, like for FFR Remix or such.

PS. Also some sort of system that kept track of FCs would be nice, like a star next to the level you've FC'ed and then two stars next to a level name that you also FC'ed on hard.

If new stepfiles were to be made for songs, nobody would play the old ones because a) they are mostly offbeat/sync and suck, and b) people want to play harder stuff anyways.

I say they just fix the old ones.

There's good and bad things about that. I mean, who wouldn't want a harder difficulty for each song, and it's a cool system you suggested, but really, that would be a lot of work (I'm sure we could get the simfiles done in 2 days, but poor synth ), and that's basically doubling the memory the game takes up.

I would assume an implication of this is that songs that are already impossibly hard get an easier version (ie the classical section, For FFR etc.) On those grounds, it sounds like a good idea.

Making an easier version of the stepfiles would probably be easier than going the other way, you'd just take out some of the steps (the off-beats, some steps out of those massive arrow storms and so on.)

Good idea. Especially the FC keeping track, I like that.

Tough call... I mean I'm sure some experts would be able to survive even harder versions of classical songs (not me, I can only survive Rondo ), I mean, has anyone ever FC'ed one of these gems? If not, the hard mode wouldn't have to be made since it would never be unlocked. If so, well, I guess those people can handle something harder.

The easier version idea is good too, but then the whole "FC to unlock" idea would need to be changed.

Don't count on it; I've been at this game for well over three months, and i still can't FC most of the "easy" levels. Getting through a "Standard" is choring, and "difficult" and above, forget it (with the exception of the poorly rated Bubbleman =P). I have a decent amount of songs to keep me occupied, but not enough, especially not enough "good" songs (baring the hip-hop section, obviously, as i cant stand listening to that stuff)

Given that, i think we need to take the opposite approach as well: maybe have easier versions of some songs, too. A lot of the "higher diffuclty" songs kick-ass; but unfortunatly, they lose their charm when one dies ~30 seconds into it.

Oh, and you are not doubling the space taken up. A song is between 2 and 5 megs. A stepfile is about .005 Megs. You could have 100 stepfiles made for a song and it would still barely make a difference in space.
