I'm not usually the type to suggest improvements, but here goes anyway:
Why not make it so you write the note that goes with the challenge AFTER you have played the song?
That way you can really brag if you know you did well, or put in your lame excuses if you screwed up. That change would also allow you to put in a note to ignore that challenge if the game bugged or the phone rang or something like that happened.
Just a thought.
EDIT- Just to clarify, the ammount of credits would still be chosen beforehand.
