As a high school student who plays an instrument, I find absolutly invaluable the ability to single out a hard section to work on it to try to learn it to eventually play it correctly. Doing so is impossible as of now on FFR. While I understand that programming picking out individual measures of the piece is near just as impossible, I do have a suggestion to make it reasonably doable. Granted, my following suggestion would greatly increase to download time for this, it is the best I could come up with. As a means to fulfill my idea, it could be possible to break the song down into 15 second groups. It wouldn't take long for one to find the part they are looking for. As for how one could choose a section, when one would normally double click to start the song, the double click would bring up a song section screen listing each 15 second group and the entire song being on the default. From this basic setup, anyone with the time could create sections of song that are more precisely aimed at parts of the piece. Thoughts?

Re: Song snips
I don't like this idea. At least I haven't seen this suggestion before, though. It would take a long time to implement it. Either that, or that's have to let people download FFR songs on Stepmania, which isn't likely to happen either. The way to get better at this game is to play songs that are longer than 15 seconds, anyway, so just play more songs, and you'll get better. Just keep practicing.

Re: Song snips
Well, here's the thing, having to play through the easy part of the before the hard part does not get you any better when you already know it. A good example of this would be Stay With Me. When the song goes into half notes, practicing that is not going to get you any better. Practicing those fast 8th note runs in it will. Alpha Helix, that's just straight quarter notes that do not go too fast like 80% of the piece. At the end of the piece there is a long 8th note run. My suggestion would allow you to skip over those boring quarter notes and get to the part that you actually need to improve on.Comment

Re: Song snips
dont expect this to happen....
AFAIK, you can't even do this in Stepmania.
for a different way to practice... if you are having trouble with a specific pattern... take a screenshot of it so you can memorize the pattern. then practice it on a tabletop or something so you get it down. then play it again in FFR... you should be able to do it.RIPComment

Re: Song snips
Yeah, you could technically practice in the Stepamania editor by sectioning off a problematic area and using the play function.
But, as for FFR, I think it would be too time consuming to do any good in that fashion. The only way I see something like this being possible is by bringing back a form of tutorial (the old how to play tutorial never made it through the revision). Perhaps it could be broken up into sections this time with one of the final quick tutorials being a burst of eight note runs? I guess that would be more of a "lesson" versus the "how to play" that used to be in the game, but it would be my only feasible suggestion to this.
