Waiting...?

Sometimes in multiplayer, it says "Waiting for player 2" in the middle of the game. Yet it looks like they're still playing. Does this message mean they've left or there is just lag? Also, sometimes it looks like the arrows are getting to them at the same time, but before they get there, it says perfect, good, etc. Is this a bug or is it just difference in speed of connection?

There is an annoucement where these bugs are addressed.

And yes, that "lag" is from both playfields not starting exactly at the same time.
