    Key Selection "bug" squash

In this last R3 update, the "bug" of allowing the number pad with the user selected keys was "squashed." I'm new to the site, but I played Stepmania back in the day about 9 years ago and have trained my brain to use ESDF for up, left, down, right IN ADDITION to 8426. I don't understand why using eight keys is a "bug". Since this change was added, this game has become exceedingly frustrating and the fun is gone. I'm still terrible as hell using eight keys, so I don't think allowing it is an unfair advantage. Way back when there used to be a secondary column for the keys, as if 2 players were using the same keyboard for multiplayer. Can another column be added for the same keys to have a secondary input? Honestly, wouldn't allowing 6-8 fingers to hit 4 arrows increase the performance and number of possible stepcharts?
I probably won't play again unless this is fixed. I've tried but its just too maddening. Thanks.

Not to mention that the "bug" is still useable in the legacy and velocity engines!!! Please put the numberpad feature back into the R3 engine.

        Hey pal,

For quite some time using what your referring to has been considered double setup, and is generally frowned upon by the community because it allows users to hit keys at a faster rate than would be possible on standard setups. Generally for songs of lower difficulty this is useless as it would destroy any hope of accuracy, but for harder songs (specifically songs where passing or "full comboing" was difficult) it gave double setup users an unfair advantage.

It's really an arguable point, and you're welcome to your opinion, but it's worth letting you know that you're in the minority for being in favor of allowing double setup.

Just play Stepmania if it's really frustrating.

The only advantage double setup gives is for anchor/one-hand patterns, so I wouldn't even want to see what garbage would come out of this being allowed and having it be an excuse for stepping shitty files.

Double Setup has never been allowed on this site. Using double setup is considered cheating and can result in your scores being wiped.

Well that sucks. Thanks for the info. You should probably "fix the bug" on the legacy and velocity engines also then.

There being a rule forbidding the practice has generally been sufficient. People who like to argue that because the -can- it means they are -allowed- to don't tend to get very far. Double Setup scores are pretty easy to see just from looking at replays.
