    Forum Display

I dunno how to explain this one. It just looks so messy on the front page. Maybe that's the way it should stay, but I thought I would put out this suggestion.

I wanted you guys to laugh but at the same time take it seriously (not sure if that's possible, but what the hell)

That's just a little example of what I meant about subcategorizing the main page to make it neater. I don't intend for you guys to only view those subforums at all.

Maybe on the front page we could subcategorize it so we don't have to see so many of the chit chat threads and more of the important threads. MAYBE I'M JUST BEING LAZY, but it's a bother to have to look through the forums to find an important thread once it's gone down below the inactivity line.

    but yeah to sum up:
    It looks disorganized
The more important threads are being shoved away

But this is just me and my big ol' LET'S CHANGE FFR ideas again. Don't mind me :P

    Agree, Disagree? Why?

I actually agree that it would be a good idea.

This is a good thought but I fear that this would lead to complications in the future especially if it were to be made too organized. Honestly, I think it is fine the way it is because usually, the most important announcements gets mentioned on the front page and the forum itself is not that complicated to figure out.

Keep in mind that the "most important threads" are usually stickied. If not stickied, mentioned/viewed a lot.

What's wrong with "too" organized? I don't see a problem with forums being "too" organized.

The forums being too organized was not what I was referring to. I was talking about his displaying idea being too organized on the front page. It will just makes it so confusing.

EDIT: Keep in mind that this is just my opinion. I just do not see the point of having this when you could just go to the forum and look at the recent posts.

              Re: Forum Display

I don't see this as necessary - it takes up a lot more room that right side that simply doesn't need to be, and if a section goes dead, it's taking up room for something that is potentially active in a section that isn't included on the front page. Putting every particular forum in the boards will be entirely too cluttered as well.

It's fine the way it is in my opinion; it's not too much work to go to the particular area that a thread was to check the first page of each forum. If a thread has been active in the past 2 to 7 days, it'll be there.

                Re: Forum Display

I was more drawn to the funny stuff you wrote in the image than the idea itself.

It isn't a bad idea, but it seems rather unnecessary to essentially put what already is shown in the forums page on the main page again. Clicking the section in the forums page doesn't really take too much extra time, and the threads are listed by last postings so you can locate the one you are looking for fairly fast. Particularly important threads are sticky'd anyway, and if you have posted in the thread recently you could just go to the forum post section on your profile if that's any faster.

If each section is only going to get 5 most recently posted threads, you might actually make it so you have to go to the forums page even more frequently due to the popularity of some sections of the forum. The way it is set up now 30 of the most recently posted topics in the entirety of the forum are shown, which would probably be more helpful in terms of the thread you are looking for being on the front page. If you intend to increase the number of threads shown, the right side of the page will be excessively filled with forum posts (as TC said).

                  Re: Forum Display

Yeah I already thought of that while I was writing this post. It's just that sometimes it's a pain in the ass to browse the many subforums on this site to find the one thread that went inactive. I guess that's what the search function is for.
As for the "length increase" issue I don't see that as being too much of a problem.

Still a pain in the ass to code I bet and probably (definitely) not at the top of anyone's to do list until like 2014.
